I am extremely anxious with writing my first entry and how to begin this journey. I have to be honest and express that this journey was not optional due to a requirement with my Master's program. I have chosen a support group based on personal needs, hoping it could beneficial and a learning experience for the future.
I will begin by stating that I have been experiencing depression for 7 years. I believe it began as postpartum depression but unsure how it has progressed and continued for so long. After experiencing the symptoms and living with the illness I recognized how depression has effected many family members over the years and still continues.
I have tried different treatment methods but I am still trying to find the consistent form. I believe journaling would be the greatest benefit especially due to my interest. I often falter because of my busy schedule as a single mom that works and completing her Masters. I have not helped by adding to my plate but I am looking at my long term goal.
Just writing this short bit has made me feel better. More anxious to see the responses and support!

So I have been having a lot of health issues and my cardiologist felt that he didn't get clear enough images of my heart in the office, so he wanted to do a Trans-esophegeal heart Echocardiocgram in the hospital. I was pretty nervous about it, because I've never had any procedures related to my heart or any other major organs. I've had knee surgery and thyroid surgery, but to me anything to do...

I am a very firm believer in therapy as a way to get a handle on things, and that emphases at the start should be to find (as best as possible) what the cause of the depression is.
So welcome to the forum, and I hope you are able to find some of the answers you seek here.
A recent national news segment discussed postpartum so you should be able to find info via the net on this. The gist of what they said was 2 week postpartum OK, 8 weeks "you could have a problem".
So getting a counsellor is really worth it.
Secondly; depression can have to do with disempowerment, and exhaustion. so those are 2 other places to look for possible causes. I think having a baby will create a hormonal shift after a baby is born; but exhaustion and stress take over without a person knowing. So look at how much of your time is spent re-energising yourself, and doing just what you want. I have learned that I have to have a day a week or I no longer get by.
