Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I'm 48 years old I lost my mother when I was 15 My dad when I was 33 and my brother 2 years ago. My brother committed suicide, he was a police officer. I've experienced depression all of my life, I am a type 1 diabetic and have been one for 40 years. It's tough being without my immediate family, not having someone that close that has no me sense of child not being able to talk to those people. I know that I have other family friends that love me very much they like to comfort me in my times of need, but it's just not the same. I had a very strong bond with my mother and when she passed from cancer it destroyed me. I weighed about 125 right before she passed and then a year later I weighed about 280 lb. My dad who was a great guy a little overbearing but a great guy. My mother knew he would want to remarry because he's never been alone. So she made him promise to wait a year to get remarried. And that is exactly what he did he waited exactly a year and then remarried. I didn't really have a problem with the new marriage. I never seeked any kind of counseling for her death, or his death. Which I think has really caused me to have a lot of problems not only mentally but emotionally and sometimes I feel physically. But ever since my brother died from suicide, it has really been a weight on my brain. I worry that I'm going to have that problem at some point. I am seeing a therapist for my brother's passing. It seems to have opened a lot of doors that I didn't realize were closed for a long time. The problems I've had in my marriage and even my past marriages, they all stem from that. I have been in an institution after his passing. I think that's all I want to say right now. If anybody out there has similar problems to this, just know there's always somebody listening, and always somebody wanting to help. But you'll never get over wanting to talk to that family member or members. Stay strong my community brothers and sisters have a good Saturday.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

Does anyone follow her? She's really got some good tips.
I'm older now and I have 3 other sisters and I also know that one day something will happen where one of us won't be here anymore. It's really heartwrenching. Stay strong. You should try to get some kind of counseling. Where I live, I live near a State mental hospital which provides me with free mental health counseling (I go once a week) and a doctor (once a month). You should see if there is a mental health hospital anywhere near you. State mental hospitals provide FREE medical services for anyone, even if you are working. Check it out. You need to talk to someone. Write to one of us also whenever you feel the need to.
I'm truly sorry for the loss of your brother as well. I know it cannot be easy.
I was a member of this site over 10 years ago and met some truly helpful and wonderful people who I am still friends with to this day. I have been back under a new name for about a year. I really never thought I would need to, but here I am lol. I guess we are never truly free from depression and anxiety, but I held my own for 10 years. That's something anyways lol
My best to you and I truly hope that you are able to get the help you need.
Hey Dens, you are very strong to have made it this far. Try a pet for support, even if its a goldfish. I prefer dogs myself.
Stay strong my depressed friends!!
