Does anyone have any experience with EMDR?
I'm starting EMDR treatment in June. I'm rather nervous.....not sure what to expect.
We were supposed to start a few weeks ago but my therapist wasn't sure I was "emotionally stable enough at that time."
I'll be seeing her every week during EMDR and she gave me her emergency number in case I go into crisis between visits......this sounds intense.
I have a lot of trauma to "reprocess"

So I have been having a lot of health issues and my cardiologist felt that he didn't get clear enough images of my heart in the office, so he wanted to do a Trans-esophegeal heart Echocardiocgram in the hospital. I was pretty nervous about it, because I've never had any procedures related to my heart or any other major organs. I've had knee surgery and thyroid surgery, but to me anything to do...

There was someone on one of these boards here that posted about doing it. This person posted that it is mainly effective for very recent trauma. Is what they said.
And yes, you will need to be under a licensed professional's care during this whole process. It can be too intense for some people. I think every one is different, so it's up to you and if your therapist thinks you can handle doing it.
You can research about it online and on YouTube. I wish you luck.
The first two went very well. They were more recent less traumatic memories. (My therapist wanted to start easy)
On the 3rd however the one trauma tried to older, much deeper, very traumatic memories. I ended up dissociating right there during the reprocessing.
So we're talking a quick break just for one week, to work on grounding, mindfulness and self care after a dissociation episode.
But dispite the set back....I think it's actually going quite well. I'm actually encouraged. I've been able to talk with my therapist about things I've never been able share with anyone before because even the thought of the incidents would send my cationic, much less being able to actually verbalize them.
It's important that she go at your pace
Encouragement reads good!...xo
