I have had ECT. It saved my life,

Do your homework! They like to blast you a dozen times, then start maintenance treatments once a month. I don't see how anybody does it, myself.

I would be more than happy to share what I know about ECT with you, it would be easier not in an open forum though, but if I were to give you one solid piece of advice from personal experience, make sure that you have a solid connection and support with your family and health care providers prior to starting these treatments. I have had the amazing love and support of my family which has probably saved my butt many times. but my doctors have not been together on anything and it has made every complication even harder to overcome. Please be sure!!!

I had ECT it's a miracle!! I haven't been hospitalized in over 2 yrs.

Actualy I am getting my first ECT treatment on monday. My dodctor says that they do between 6 to 12 treatments and maintanance with meds or you can get ECT maintanance if meds dont work for you. You get the maintanance ECT if you relapse.

I had ect in March and I think it made me worse. My mom had it years ago and it worked for her. I really guess it depends on the person. but be prepared for the side effects of short term memoery loss anad tiredness and the process itself is kind of hard to take ( at least it was for me) I hope you find the answers you are looking for and if you do do it it workks for you

i had three bilatteral treatments and stopped..didn't want to deal with the memory problems..35 years later and i still can't remember the 6 months of memory i lost..on the other hand for some it does the trick

I HAD SHOCK TREATMENTS & THEY SAVED MY LIFE. I HAD 8 OVER 11 YRS AGO. MY SHORT TERM MEMORY IS STILL BAD BUT I'M CONSIDERING GETTING MORE.

I FELT EUPHORIC & NOTHING BOTHERED ME AT ALL. PROBLEM WAS, MY DAD SHOWED UP AT MY HOUSE, OFTEN, TO REMIND ME WHAT SHOCK TREATMENTS HELPED ME TO FORGET.

I will be getting ECT done in about 2 weeks. I'm a little nervous and scared about it but I am more anxious to get it done because I feel so horribly depressed. I have a feeling its going to work for me.

Are you taking medication? Shock treatments damage or surpress areas of the brain that might not be functioning correctly. I imagine though that it can also effect other areas. I would only consider it after exhausting all other options.

I had ECT treatments, about a year ago. It was a God send to me. I have had no major depression, and no hospitalization since.

I lost some of my short term memory, but it returned in time.

I have had 8 treatments in the last month. The first 6 were in hospital (3 per week). The last 2 were weekly as an outpatient. I noticed improvement in my depresssion and anxiety after the first treatment. After the sixth treatment my depression, anxiety and OCD were gone. I have not felt this good in 20 years. I had no memery loss or any other negative effects. If anything, my memory has improved and my thinking is clearer. ECT was my "Last Resort" also. There is no question that it saved my life after 3 suicide attempts by drug overdose in 6 months. If you consent and go ahead with treatment I hope you have as much success as I have. I tried ECT and personally it was not helpful for me but I have seen it do amazing things for other people. The main things I noticed that others did (that I did not do) was that they were consistent with their ECT treatment and they had many, many sessions (I only had five).

Hi, my mother had ECT many years ago and I was only 13 when she had it, so I can't say for sure what she was really like, cause I was just a kid, but, she has really judgment and can't remember alot of things.

I don't know, if she is just off, because of herself or if it was the ECT. I would be careful. I think these treatments are part of it.

I am going back into hospital to have more ECT treatments. My doctor decided that it was time to try ECT, and it has worked. The only thing I don't like is the surreal feeling that I have. But the improved mood is worth it.
