hey all -

i'm looking for your advice...we added CATEGORIES to depression not so long ago so that folks could get directly to the information that matters to them most. in addition to having a wonderful place for folks to just hang out, many of our members, especially new members, want answers to questions, and want to be able to quickly get to the topics that matter to them.

i'd like to expand the categories we have in depression so that they can better suit all of your needs. here's some ideas:

- Instead of TREATMENTS, break it up into ANTIDEPRESSANTS, THERAPY and possibly ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS

- Been thinking about some sort of "IN CRISIS" area for folks who need support and want to offer help. But I'm worried that it'll be alot of folks who need help...not as many folks who are there to help?

- Other ideas? What other topics are important enough to be set aside as a category?

Many of the "cries for help" get buried on the main board. Maybe a "Help Me Now" or "crisis" category would be good. I for one, like Dearest, would go there to help. If there is a way, it would be nice for members to "mark" a thread they are following or are interested in. It's so hard to keep track of the posts because they move so fast. I know we can "watch" a discussion, but that's rather inconvient. One very simply idea I had for that issue is to number the threads as they are made (1, 2, 3, 4, etc). The number would not change with each post. That way we could just jot down the number of the thread we want to follow and it would be easier to find; with maybe a "find" or "search" button on the top of the board's page. Ok, I babble, I know. Sorry. Just my humble ideas. :))

I agree with Doc. we need one board, a topic could have catergory icon. We can then keep an eye on everthing that is going on. It's not a community when we get segregated is it?
I hardly ever go into the new catergories as I would miss the people in need threads. Can't we have fun and help? someone put my 'panties' from the main board into 'fun' the other day. There was no need for that. I lost them, I didn't know they had been removed. It took me ages to find them, all the other 80 people who had joined in lost theirs too.
How many help cried did I miss whilst I was looking for my Thread?
Give me my 'panties'
back!!!!!

I would like the ability for anyone to create any forum for any category they want. They can do it in MSN, Yahoo, AOL, why not Daily Strength? Just because a person is depressed, doesn't mean they should be restricted to just the Depression forum. If they have other interests, they should be able to discuss those topics with other people interested in that SAME topic. That doesn't divide the Depression Forum. There will always be people in the Depression Forum to chat with.

Agreeing that what you have proposed is a wonderful idea, but when will DS listen to the outcry of many and implement the ignore feature?

What would be awesome perhaps is a suggestions box? If people feel there is something missing from the site or a problem with how it works they could make a suggestion for consideration?

Just my opinion here. I like the idea of an area for those in real trouble. Alot of small talk on the board. One of my goals is to help people here and sometimes when you click on "Feel terrible" or whatever, I find out there is nothing wrong or the cat crapped on the floor, etc. Depression is a very serious matter. Missoctober's idea for chitchat area is great. Overall, this site is excellent. Thank you.
