Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I also was very bad at talking about my emotions and feelings, which was not doing me much good with counselling as I'd find it impossible to talk about things.
I started doing video journals and slowly got better at verbalising what I was thinking and feeling, rather than bottling it up.
My friends and family (aside from 2 or 3 friends) don't know anything about me being a bit of a nutcase. DS has helped me get through the rough times.
I came to DS completely lost. I didn't have a clue what was happening with me. I felt so alone. And I was starting to lose it.
Okay, so I'm still having rough patches but with the support of DS I've been able to accomplish:
No overdosing for almost 70 days
101 days with no cutting
Regular exercise
Verbalising feelings
I got through my degree and graduated
I got accepted onto a masters course
Ive been through various med changes
It's got me through rough periods of insomnia
DS has given me the strength to carry on living. Without it, I'd survive, but things would be a lot harder and bleaker. At the moment aside from feeling shit I'm living a life that I would be living regardless of depression (I just don't smile as much!)
Through helping others I've also learnt a lot about myself. There are a few times when by helping others I've reminded myself that just because I'm me, it doesn't mean that i'm perfect, it doesn't mean i'm invincible, and it doesn't mean that I'm weak for having depression. By giving advice and support to others I've slowly learnt that I'm actually quite tolerant of depression and mental illness (apart from my own - but that's changing a bit).
DS has really dragged me through the last eight months and without it I'd most probably still be sat where I was eight months ago.
you actually god tangible results!
Other days its easiest to keep my mind off things while helping others.

as soon as i came back i was waaaaay happier again. it is the bestr place EVER!!
commitment and obligation free friendships, passing on survival techniques without having to write a book or do a tv show, talking to people who get 'it', meeting really unique characters, picking on stupid ideas, all from the comfort of my home... what more can one ask for :)
Yep, Im still cynical
I guess the true success stories just go and dont come back
you're right on the different truths from different perspectives angle but there are common truths that become evident when multiple perspectives are examined.
as for the 'true' success stories, i'd say they haven't succeeded at all if they're that cold and can just leave people they connected with once they stop needing them.
ok, i'm in a philosophical mood - comes with depression...lol
"Bump this topic!!!!"
Between getting the right medication regiment and group therapy and the support and commonality that DS brings I am in recovery and on my way, if not already in remission from depression.
