Ok.. so I am sure everyone has seen the thread about "important" members leaving.
Yes, some people have left, and some are in the middle of making the decision to do so.
That's fine. People come and they go.
I don't know why it is that suddenly so many people are unhappy with DS. I don't know why some people suddenly feel like this place isn't helpful. I guess it isn't helpful for them.
That's fine. Some things work for some and not for others.
People are complaining about not being able to speak their minds. I really have no idea where this is coming from. Each and every post I have EVER made on DS has been 100% honest and 0% sugarcoated. I say what I think. Someone asks for advice, I give them what I think is the best advice I can give. Someone asks for comfort, I try to give them that. Someone wants to vent, I listen. I think most members are like this. Most members speak from the heart. They really do care.
None of us are professionals. We're just regular Janes and Joes trying to help one another out. So, yeah, sometimes you might get shitty advice. Sometimes you might get nothing but "there there" and "hugz!" because members just don't know what else to do to help you in your situation. Sometimes you will hear opinions you disagree with or don't want to hear. Sometimes you won't hear the things you need to hear.
It's because DS isn't perfect, and neither is its members.
If you have an issue with that, please do leave. It's what's best for you and the rest of us here.
Personally, I'm willing to roll my eyes at some of the stupid shit that is said and done here and move on so that I can take advantage of the positive things I gain from this site. I hope that most of you are willing to hold onto this as well.

on the other hand, I have been hurt or disappointed with certain people who I know on DS, but that is another issue completely. I think that's what Daisy may have been talking about. & part of what she said I agree with b/c I know there's other proponents of that view like ALC. There's nothing wrong with that, but every now and then diplomacy helps. But that's JUST MY OPINION
I think it just comes down to trying to find a happy medium.
Too much head patting and "it's ok's" is no good because it just makes it easy for people to live their lives in an online pity party.
But
Trying to force people to listen to advice they are not ready for just breeds hostility.
My solution:
If you can't respond to a post in a positive, constructive way, don't respond.
If you don't want to pat heads, don't pat heads.
If you offer an opinion and someone is offended, don't bother with that person anymore because they will not listen to you, no matter how hard you try. It's pointless.
As for people leaving DS. I have been spending VERY little time here because it seems like if you disagree with someone or their friend on here, the harassment starts. Forget having an opinion, it seems like anymore, if someone doesn't like you, then no matter what you say or do, you are going to be reported by not only the person who doesn't like you, but all of their friends (or else you'll get a troll who uses PART of your name to constantly bash you), not to mention all of you friends will be reported simply because they are your friend. A bit childish, don't you think?
Hey, I am all for people not leaving, but I think that until some of the crap stops, then people, good and decent people, here for support are going to leave.
I feel for the CL's, because they have to rein us all in like children CONSTANTLY and slap people's hands and tell them "no, you can't do that", when all that is really neede to get things under control is for people to grow the hell up, act their age and realize that they are not the only people on the face of this earth to have a problem or an opinion.
Just my OPINION.
Somebody here (SBoom?) said it very well; typically it is not what you say that can get you banned, but how you say it. Wise words!
