Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
My life certainly hasn't turned out the way I expected, so you are not alone on that. However, it's never too late to turn things around, and start living the life we want and deserve.
Mind asking what meds you are on? How long you've been on them? Some meds take a few weeks to a month (around) to start working. And in certain cases, they do actually make you more depressed.
I can't take Prozac, for instance. It makes me much more depressed, despite possibly helping in other areas. I'm not actually on any anti-depressants anymore, just an anxiolytic and a mood stabilizer. They help as much as they can. The rest I have to put in some effort, as hard as it is.
That isn't saying you aren't doing that at all. I'm confident in you and your ability. It's hard now, but things aren't always going to be hard. Things may not be the same as they once were, with your lost love.
I also agree with you on the point about people saying "You never know what's going to happen" or "Life has it's surprises". While this is true, it doesn't do much at all to help us in our current plight. Hate to quote a song I don't really like but, "No wise words gonna stop the bleeding."
I don't think you're negative. I think you're struggling with depression and anxiety, which is something millions of people do. I can understand some people saying "Life is good", as to them, it genuinely may be. I have no issue with that. What I do have issue with is when people take the opposite stance, and say "Life is hard" or "Life is a struggle", because to them, it is. The words of advice often aren't very helpful either, such as "Just get over it." "Your life isn't so bad", etc.
It's funny you use the word "bleak", because on another forum, I've started using that as my screen name. I'm not really as depressed as I once was. Now, I'm mainly apathetic and uncaring. Numb and bored. I still chose it, because I think my outlook on life right now is quite bleak. I haven't (and don't intend to) give up hope, to stop trying. It's a struggle, but I'm forcing myself to get out more, apply for jobs, attempt to socialize more, but it's all so meaningless to me, so grim, so...bleak.
Please keep posting here. I've found that posting here is beneficial to me, even if sometimes it takes more effort than it should (or feels that way). Everyone needs some place to vent, whether it's to a therapist, a trusted family member, a diary, or some form of support group (online, in person, whatever helps).
Muskrattiger, Thank You for your wonerful words. I used to ask the nuns when I was little why did we have to be here and they would say because God wants us to. Even that young I wanted more answers. People say I have a lot going for me and why am I depressed and I just can't help it. I think if I get better financially I will try some other antidepressants. I am sorry you were in a bad place where you wanted to commit suicide. I can understand that but I alsodo not want to leave behind people and my cats who depend on me. It is funny how you said you make goals but don't beat yourself up by not attaining them. I have just come to that realization. I am still setting goals but if I don't get there I just take more time to do them as long as I do something. I am gonna take time for me and take breaks but like you said I can't make it a habit.
It's funny I have been thru some major stuff so small things don't bother me but sometimes even the littlest thing will get to you. I am hoping things will get better. Like I said this board and the people like you are a blessing. I just wish we didn't have this depression in common.
I am constantly praying so I will pray for you both like I do for so many people in my life and on this board. Thanks.

here is what i have been thru the past several years.
1994 i met a girl. my very firs girl friend. i was in 12th grade. in 97 we got married. 2001 she started cheating with her boss. 2010 i found out. 6months after our 3rd child was born. oh here is how the that week went. i lost my job, 2 days later i was driving looking for a job, totaled my car. a day later landlord kicked us out. that same day she said she was leaving me, the next day i found out about her cheating. then it hit me..... the last born is not mine and there is a chance the middle child is not mine.
i had all that hit me in the face in less than a week. battled for 2 years with my feelings and my mind. spent a couple of weeks in the hospital for cutting and tring to poison myself.
then one day she calls and needed me. they split up and she wanted to move back in. i let her. we worked out a lot of things. every thing was going great........... i thought. in less than a year she cheated on me with my sisters husband. my friend...my brother.
so here i am again. my job closed down a month ago and i have nothing.
im not sure what to say.. but your not the only one. dont let your mind take control. you control you.
you need to talk, sent me a message. i dont sleep..
I have been through a lot also but the worst was losing my fiance. I know it happens to others and it was a shock but also I thought, it figures that this would happen to me. Then people wonder why I have anxiety on top of depression. You never know what life has in store they say but I have a pretty good idea. I guess I would die of shock if it were good.
I hope things get better for you. I am trying to take control but it is hard.
