Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I had an aunt who always used to appear happy, but she certainly had her share of struggles. She once told me that no matter how bad she felt, she would put on a smile because most people don't want to be around sad people that are suffering and doing that pushes people away
She also could dislike someone yet treat them like they were her best friend. She was very popular, but I thought it was phony.
She told me that because I'm just the opposite. I can't pretend. And, I don't pretend. I don't care what people think; I can't help the way I am and am not very good at pretense when it comes to anything. I don't hide the way I'm feeling but I try not to be a burden on people because I don't want to necessariy push them away either. I'm grieving over something right now and it has been hard. I'm not going to pretend to be OK when I'm anything but.
Just be yourself. Most people have their own share of problems and can probably relate.
