Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Hi everyone. I've been inactive for a while since finally getting help, and I came back because I was getting more down recently and needed people who cared. After getting back on here I realize I stopped talking to a community who I relied on and who should be able to rely on me. I wanted to drop off some positive notes to reflect on.
First of all, pills may not work for everyone but they do work for some. It's always good to have a counselor or psychologist to speak with if you choose to get medication for depression, but the pills actually do help. They saved me from continuing down a dark path. After ending up in the hospital from mono (I'm a weakling against mono haha) I decided I wanted to stop my pills. I still have a lot of sad days, but my boyfriend says when I'm happy I'm much happier than I was while on them. So, basically pills and/or therapy is a beautiful stepping stone to finding the stronger you.
Secondly, finding all the things that comfort you and combining them into one happy day of interests and fun is a great way to distract yourself and remember what makes you happy in life. Example: I like to curl up in my cold room under big blankets with my hedgehog, watch television and eat my favorite food. It's so much good at once I can't possibly think of the bad.
Anyways, I'll cut this short (or long really). I hope this kind of gives you a nudge to reaching a healthy solution for your depression. I love you all and I'm happy to be back here with people that care and support one another.

It's National Doughnut Day!Which three would you like? (never mind the calories, fat, or sugar content; just go with what you would pick if none of that mattered and whatever health issues you might have that would keep you from eating one in real life can be cast aside for this exercise as well... have at it!)

I just wanted to touch on 1 thing you said. Anytime anyone decides to try medication for any type of Emotional or psychological illness, you need to go to a Psychiatrist. A GP or MD or Family Dr. is not educated, trained or specializes in psychiatric medications. Often they prescribe whatever new thing the medication (pharmaceutical rep.) is pushing that week or month.
So please if you're considering medications to help your Mental Illness, please see a Psychiatrist, they specialize in these drugs, they know how they work together safely and they know what works best for what mental illness, as well as what works with your current medications.
