Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Always feel like crap after drinking, takes away the anxiety at the time and makes me feel incredible but the next couple of days afterwards i feel like shit!

I think you need a new doctor and maybe you can get some help with your anxiety. Drinking is not the answer...it is a depressant after all. So sorry you aren't feeling well. *hugs*

Was a point in my life when i was getting bullied where ever i went weather it be school my road and at home, its made me think badly of myself and i know i shouldnt think like that but it seems to be inbedded in my subconcious.

I feel exactly the same way.

once you start it spirals you. i've been there - drinking problems are easier to get into when you are in the pits of despair

also it escalates anxiety, and warped thinking. the reason you feel worse is because its a depressant - you probably already know that and its no good me saying it i guess. but i would get some help though or talk about whats up

I have recently been to an AA meeting. Non threatening and supportive. People understand what you are trying to do. I actually don't see myself as an alcoholic, but I am on that road if I don't do something about it now

My experience with using alcohol to self medicate is that it produces a slow downward spiral. It screws up your brain chemistry. And you feel like you have recovered after a few days, but you really have not. It takes a month or two for your brain chemistry to really come back. I have cut down my alcohol consumption to one drink a week (beer or wine) and it has made a big difference in my life.

Thanks, i gave up for 41 days last year, but now im back drinking nearly as much as i was at my worst, i guess as its a new year i will try and cut down, not sure if giving up completely is good idea cause it just made me think about it all the time that id given up.

Yes, I know that feeling too. Think we all have to find our own solutions.Maybe keep a diary of how much you are drinking, that way it becomes more real. Tell your friends that you need some support too. It's amazing how difficult other people can find it when you are not drinking. You become painfully aware of how much the wheels of society are lubricated by booze

yeah does seem like society wants everyone to drink and smoke, think its got a big thing to do with the tax they put on it lol
deleted_user
yeah but the tax on yourself is worse. I made the mistake of saying that "never will this happen to me" and guess what......I have eaten everything I said never about....so be careful, maybe abstaining is the best thing for you, no matter what anyone thinks

not me
