Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Restful
There's nothing horrible going on in my life, but I'm just plain tired of trying everyday. There aren't too many things that bring joy and peace to me, even when it should. It's tough for me to look forward to anything, even when it should be something to look forward to. I just feel like sleeping for a long time, but every time I go to sleep I have bad dreams. I'm just pretty much stuck mentally.

And yes there have been years of my life that only small things
made me feel good. My favorite tv shows, sitting on the porch
in Spring, etc. My life was difficult. But I think I had mild depression also.
When I was put on depression pills my mood improved.
As someone who spent years feeling suicidal, and time in psychiatric facilities, I can definitely say depression can improve.
When life is harder than usual, I think it's ok to sleep when you need to. Take a nap, get that extra rest. You need it to be able to continue to put one foot in front of the other.
Depression colors everything dark and it makes it impossible to see the joy in anything. Life IS hard. Try making a list of those things that seem to help and read it daily. A saying I have is: "Do the thing you don't want to do". Like taking a walk, doing something for someone else, even reading some other threads on Daily Strength and commenting from experiece to help someone else. Moving beyond yourself helps!! Nothing we have gone through is wasted. I have been able to draw on my experiences to help others, even the worst things I have gone through have put me in a position to empathize with someone else. Trust that you are here for a reason.
