Hi all,

I've been learning a lot about the impact that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have on adulthood. You are a victim of ACEs if you experienced any combination of neglect; physical, sexual or emotional abuse; parental mental illness, substance abuse or criminal behavior; or domestic violence toward other loved ones.

I've read research that ties childhood trauma to increased risk of physiological illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer; mental illnesses; inferior relationships; dysfunctional beliefs; and emotional difficulties.

I'm starting to see a connection with the problems I face today and my past. Since we are all here to get help for our depression, I'm curious to see how many of you had similar experiences as me?

I want to make it my life mission to help others (and myself) heal. It's unfair that we are born into a threatening and chaotic world and then after escaping are damaged for life. It concerns me that undeserving children are being hurt as we speak.

I definately agree that there could be a connection. I was sexually abused by 2 different family members when I was 8 to 9 years old. I was emotionally abused by one of my older brothers on a daily basis. My mother had OCD tendancies and I felt that neither one of my parents spent much time connecting with me. I ended up developing anxiety problems...especially socially. I still struggle with it today. And I am now in an abusive marriage. I also have developed severe depression. I have learned a lot about my disfunctional relationship over the past few years and am starting to see now why it is unhealthy. Sometimes I feel like I will never feel at peace with my life because of my struggles. I just always feel like something feels off.

Is it possible for any of us to go back to that blissful innocence and perhaps ignorance of our youth, a place where we can be silly and as stupid as we want to be without criticism and still feel loved and supported? Or are we just in the working world, the rat-race, working to pay bills, until we die, without getting to resolve these childhood issues and enjoy our lives? Am I wishing for the Garden of Eden, or the Garden of Heathens?

I'm right there with you Koolman. I hate feeling like, my future is doomed because of some bullshit I had no control over. I don't want my life story to be kid suffered -> adult suffered -> THE END.

I am completely amazed and horrified at the amount of people who know my pain. I've been working hard since last week to create a life-raft to help everyone who is drowning from these childhood traumas.

I was bullied and have had childhood trauma since the age of 5. I am still working on what I went through. I will not let it destroy me, . Thank you for sharing., Hugs GB
