Wow.. I need some help with this Please Please please..
I was driving home from work yesterday in rush hour. There were many cars on the road headed to our house and many houses in the area.. I could see something in the distance walking slowly across the road. As I approached it , I saw it was a fairly large turtle, right in the middle of traffic.
I picked him up and went from house to house to see who might own him but didnt get any takers. Took him home and looked him up on the internet and he is a desert turtle. someone has painted his shell. It says they are illegal to have or to even touch.. Do I call the Utah Wildlife authorities or what do I do.. He is big but I think juvenile. He is so very cute but I know he would be much better out in the wild.. What is your opinion please.... thanks.. thebeast.... and bears dont eat turtle soup so that is not in the discussion

I am betting someone had him as a pet (illegally) and got tired of taking care of him, and released him.
He says it is also easy to get permits for teachers and such to have these animals. It may not be illegal at all. Most vest will take him in and know better how to care for him.
yes I suggest animal control....they will return him to a suitable habitat....
Shame someone used him for a canvas. :o(
You did the right thing!!! Poor turtle!!! I would try to find info for you but belive the resources were given. How sooo very sweet of you and here's I have confidence you will take good care of him or her before you find the right place to go.
Don't worry about it being legal or not. They won't and better not penalize you. You did well.
If you still have him or her, google it. The internet provides so many resources!
