The holidays have been rough on me in recent years because I have no family besides my mom. It's hard seeing all of these images of big, happy families when it's just the two of us. Now my mom is in a rehab/long term living facility and it makes it extra lonely for me. I will try to visit with her as long as I can, but it makes me feel sad and lonely that a portion of my day will be spent alone and I won't be having a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

I truly feel your pain. For me this year will be the first year in 6 that I wont be alone at Christmas. I found that there are lots of lonely people on the holidays but I do have a solution... go to your local VA hospital and volunteer to help with Christmas. Its not a very festive place but you can feel the warmth as everyone wishes each other a merry Christmas just an idea.

I spent all day completely alone yesterday, caring for my sick cat. It's nippy in SF so spent a lot of time under the covers. There's nowhere I really want to be either.

Thanks for all of the responses. I am sorry for everyone else that was also alone. I wish we could have that DS party that Pepper suggested so none of us would be alone! Thanks for the hugs LMT. Love you!

I know this is too late for Thanksgiving but why not volunteer in a soup kitchen for Christmas dinner. Or volunteer at the facility your Mother is at-maybe reading to the paitents or helping with the holiday meal
