Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I know that during extreme moments of my PTSD, i do what i call zombie out. i am detached from everything, not an emotion in my body, all fact and no substance, with little motivation.

It wasn't always good, I've had 5 suicide attempts, spent a fair amount of time in the psych ward, been through 17 Pdocs and stopped counting Therapists a long time ago. I've used literally every Psych med there is and I've done 3 cycles of ECT (Electric Shock Therapy) that saved my life. There's good with the bad and all of it works together. But you have to work at it all the time.
Depression is like that in a way, you can't let yourself give in or give up, because when you do, it's too easy not to get started again. What you talk about as Depersonalization sounds more like your Disassociating, that can happen quite a lot with Depression. It gets too hard to wake up to yet another day of sad, dreary, dark, empty moods...so your brain just tries to remove you from the situation. Your body's there but your mind tries to hide inside itself. The harm with this is if the depression gets too deep, too bad...you can hide too deep and just not come out...you can go into a state of psychosis.
Are you seeing a Therapist regularly or a Pdoc (psychiatrist)? I would strongly recommend that you get some professional help if your not currently seeing someone. I know that it feels like you've been doing this for so long and it seems like its just never going to go away, but it can get better, it can. This isn't something that you can do by yourself, you need help to do it, professional help. And please don't misunderstand me, prayer, and faith is very important for any difficult situation in life, but it can be used in conjunction with medical help.
Take care,
Kat
I really don’t know what to say myself on getting out of it. I think telling people and describing how you feel helps. Even if the words feel worthless and nonsensical, the truth begins to surface through your telling, and you’ll understand better what’s going on. Journalling can help that way too. Try to keep up faith that things will get better. If you expect something to happen, there’s a higher chance of it happening, I think. That’s because your mind just kind of makes it happen for you.
This got reaaally nonsensical! Hope my advice helped.
