I have been battling depression and anxiety since around 2000. Lately it's like I'm really depressed, and I'm trying to find the root of my depression. On top of the depression I suffered a massive trauma back in 2012, which completely turned my world upside down. Every since then I have failed to get my life back on track. I have really bad self esteem and body image issues, I am overweight and I'm wondering if that's one of the things that's depressing me but yet I cant get motivated to change it. Each day I struggle to survive or make it through the day with my anxiety. Nothing interests me anymore, I've been on meds/medications before and they worked totally or completely opposite on me, they made me act crazy.
Deep down i feel that I dont want to be depressed but yet I do nothing to change it, I was going to therapy years back for my depression and now it's like I have no motivation to go or feel like going. Back in 2005 I was in a bad rut but I was able to pull myself out of it. I am afraid my trauma has changed me and not for the better and it scares me everyday. i used to be able to get involved in relationships, work, go to school go out, have friends etc. I just dont know what's wrong with me, am i in denial or just afraid to live. Am i delusional and thinking we get second chances which i know is not accurate. What are peoples struggles with depression and how do they change it?

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I had ect last year, got a good job, had weight loss surgery, adopted a dog, and finally graduated from college.
Still not sure how I did all that given my horrid starting point a few years ago.
Trauma alone is horrible. Trauma with depression is like a double whammy. I'm sorry for your suffering. And I can relate to the medication frustrations.
Start with a new therapist and psychiatrist. The right ones make all the difference.
You might want to look into ect or transcranial magnetic stimulation if you are treatment resistant.
I also started using art therapy on my own. Bought a few books on the subject. It helped me a lot.
Also I use tapping. Check out tapping.com. it looks silly at first but it really helps me when I'm at a very low point.
Take it one step at a time. Every step is a victory.
I've also been overweight, but it's never been my weight that I was depressed about, at least I don't think so, cause I always knew I could lose it, and I have lost about 50 pounds over the past 8 years, it wasn't all at once cause I didn't feel desperate over it, but reading Dr Phil's book on losing weight helped me immensley with that part of my life.
I still do the emotional eating thing, but not as often now. I'm still not at my goal weight either, but it really isn't the most important thing to me, so I can understand what you say about feeling unmotivated, cause you have to ask yourself, how is this going to make my life any better, and sometimes for me it's hard to find an answer. lately I haven't even looked for an answer, it was just something to do, a routine, you know, excercising and eating healthy, not even weighing myself.
But the depression, that's always been a battle, and I think people who are depressed are far more in touch with reality than those who are not, and if we can learn ways to manage it, we are much clearer on life and have truer expectations. But then we can get in those places that are so dark they become dangerous. that's why managment is important.
