Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Don’t worry about the labels that are put on medications. Antidepressants are powerful too. They may work well for you. I know someone who finds Lamictal works well for them.
But....and it's a big but, you can't be Diagnosed BiPolar from your M.D. and Therapist talking to a Pdoc about you, that is ridiculous! Only a Pdoc can diagnose you and in order for them to do that they need to talk to you, there are emotional, mood, depression, history surveys/questionnaires that you need to fill out that they then take into account with what they learn when they talk to you and what you tell them your symptoms are.
An M.D. is great at treating Strep Throat or casting a broken arm or treating Bronchitis but they are neither educated or trained in BiPolar Disorder, nor do they have specialty training in Psych Medications.
You need to go and see the Psychiatrist and let them properly diagnose you, then let them decide if you need to take further medications, let them decide if you actually are BiPolar. BiPolar disorder is not passed down genetically from generation to generation, so whatever your father has doesn't matter. Please go and see the Pdoc yourself and get properly Diagnosed.
Take care,
Kat
