Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I am new to this group and I am hoping I can find people and read stories/thoughts that relate to me. In my life, it is really hard to find people and familt who can relate to my depression. I have struggled with depression since I was about 12 or 13. I have the tools and knowledge to work on it, but it always slips back into this empty, sad feeling. My partner has been getting frustrated. He tells me to smile. Think positive thoughts. Get out more. I have explained that him saying these things rarely helps or motivates me. It makes me feel useless because I can tell I am dragging him down. When I say i feel sad, he says thing like "oh i getcha, we all get sad." I find myself snapping at more. I am screaming "You don't understand because you are not a person who experiences depression." I know he is trying his best because he doesn't understand. I am just hoping someone reads this and tells me I am not alone.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
I know very well what you are going through, it's so sad. Yes I've been the same way. Like GreenEyes727 above, I went to therapy. Can I give you a tip?
I live not too far from a State Mental Hospital (here in NYC). I don't know if you do live somewhere near one, or can travel to one, but State Mental Hospitals provide services for FREE. Where I go, I get free counseling session every week, plus a medical doctor to give me medication if I need it. It really is a great service, it's a clinic like setting, but it's for mental health. I can tell you right now, if you don't do anything it will only get worse as you get older. I'm older now too and it got to the point where I could barely work anymore. Just check and see the State mental hospitals near you, they have clinics that are FREE---I mean really free---they will bill your insurance, but there are NO co-pays and no limits on anything. They will treat you right. I've been going for 11 years now and I feel better.
I’m so sorry you are going through this. Thank you for sharing with us about how you truly feel at the moment.
When I went through empty nest syndrome, I didn't want to talk to anyone so I decided to post in one of the parent’s online support groups and I was comforted after I shared. Continue to share, we are here for you. You are not alone.
Praying for you for peace and strength. God bless you.
It can make things worse. Hope you feel better
