the issue was a deeply personal one that I should have never even brought up to her, knowing how ignorant she is when it comes to getting on a personal level with her.
Guess all you can do is to keep track of what you can and can't talk to her about and limit your conversations accordingly.

Short story - diagnosed at 16, told parents at 18, dismissed and disowned shortly after. Mum lives in LALALand. Now 21 and manage polite conversation.
Horrible situation, but it shows who you can actually rely on.
What is this "scientific evidence" you speak? Are you combatting your mother's views about religion or spirituality with scientific evidence that there is no God?
If so, while it's important to assert your views about such things, you have to look at: Is that stuff really that important when it comes to your relationship with each other? Isn't it more important that you two love each other?
I'm kind of just learning that I have about a minute of talking before she changes it. But I'll take that minute gladly. Any time spent with her (since were not close) is good! I know it's frustrating but don't let it ruin everything.
We all have our "pie in the sky" thoughts and theories of goodness and fairness, but the fucking truth as we ALL know here is that goodness and fairness is RARE, and hatefulness, spitefulness and hold you back any way they can is the reality of this world. Well anyway, thanks for being here for me.
