It worked pretty good for me when i was taking it. I don't think any of my future kids will have any problems from it. lol

Helloooooooooo!! I take Lexapro with no side effects, but everyone is different. It really lifts my depression! I've never heard of the kids having mental problems from taking antidepressants. I would ask Faith about that. Are you going to try this?

I never heard about future kids having problems if the mother is on Lexapro, but that is something your doctor should be able to find out for you. I've taken Lexapro for years 20mg. It's helped me a lot. I was on Efexor before the Lexapro and that did nothing... the doctor had me all the way up to 300mg and my blood pressure reached the roof. I just started on Seroqual two days ago and take it with the Lexapro. The Lexapro doesn't work for me as good as it once did so the doctor wants to try this combo. It takes sometime to reach it's full effectiveness, I think 3 months -- not sure.

There is no published evidence that is true. NONE. If there was any truth in this, the medication would be taken completely off the world market.

thank you guys for ur replies...its not lexapro itself its any psychiatric drug im talking about. i heard since it does things with chemicals when u have a kid it will make them autistic, or have down syndrom, or adhd etc....
yea joy i was telling faith that wellbutrin made me agitated alot. and she said because the wellbutrin didnt target my anxiety and she said that lexapro might work better cuz it will help with depression and anxiety

There are some nutball groups who say antidepressants do all kinds of 'bad things', but they are extremists and have no proof.

it was probably one of the less dangerous meds.
the fact is, many of these medications haven't been around long enough to be able to see the long-term effects. i think what they mean by people passing on the disease means the genetic predisposition for depression/suicide/schizophrenia to be in the family history.
people who have had family history of suicides are simply more disposed to those thoughts. just like cancers can be hereditary.
so..hahaha...yeah, i'd have to say they're talking out their asses.

Okay, I'm going to go against the grain here and say it was absolutely horrible for me. It amplified my depression like a crazy thing. I wanted to die so badly I can't describe. But I've always had a hard time with meds....I knew that was why. Be careful!

i got that from paxil and zoloft star. i went full-on suicidal.
lexapro gave me the electric shock thing, and some `chemical' feelings, like strung out or something.

Everybody has different responses to chemicals. That's why the docs usually start you off with small doses and then increase it. Nothing works the same on everyone.

The first med I ever tried was lexapro. It worked, but I was really jittery and actually lost ten pounds in two weeks. I'm not a large person to begin with, so this was kind of an issue. Now I'm on Celexa, though, which is in the same family and I'm fine!
I know that if you take a med while pregnant, your child may have a slight addiction to it, as you would if you took the med and then suddenly stopped taking it. But I don't believe there are any serious side effects. Always important to ask a dr tho! Good luck!

It gave me non stop migraines and made me extremely irritable.
I think the "it will mess your future kids up" claim is garbage. If you have a mental health diagnosis it IS possible you will pass it down because of your own genetics not because of the medication you were or were not on.
