I feel for you beastie. Funerals are very difficult to get through, especially when you're anxious. I hope it all works out. Do something soothing for yourself and take deep breathes if you can. I'm so sorry for your loss. Much love and hugs being sent your way.

I think you have to give yourself permission to have anxiety and to feel sad and to cry and to grieve.

One of the purposes of a funeral and wake is so the loved ones can gather in a safe place and find solace from each other.

So, allow others to comfort you.

Do you 'feel' you HAVE to go?
I don't go! I would rather remember someone like they were. I refuse to go to funerals. I go to family members out of respect but I don't go view. Maybe that could be an option for you.
Some need that closure of saying goodbye.
Everyone is different.
Do you have a friend or family member who could go with you for support?

big T knows how much you loved and appreciated him, especially now. I don't know how to say goodbye forever either. I'm so sorry. Just take a lot of deep breaths and know that anything left unsaid is known by the loved one who passes.

My condolences on your loss, Beast. I agree with the poster who said they don't go to viewings. I do either. Is it possible that you could just go to the memorial service and not the viewing? Just remember that everyone there will be grieving too. I doubt if they will notice that you are anxious. Just take things easy and be kind to yourself.

I just go and pay my respects to the family and friends...I talk to my lost loved one kind of like a prayer. I let them know how much I miss them and how much I loved them and will continue to love them and how I am so glad they no longer suffer and have found deep peace.

I have a problem going to funerals to. When you seeing someone you know or related to dies, it is very difficult to deal with. I feel the same way, when a person is alive, you should love the person who is near you because if something bad happened to them, you'll feel bad. My heart goes out to you. In the past 4 years I known people who died, and I could not attend their funeral because I would get sick (I have scizures). I had a neighbor who died in 2008, I went to her wake (first time I ever went to one), I felt so bad and I had difficulties walking into the funeral home and view the body. When the neighbor was alive, I used to go to her home to water her flowers, and her tomatoe plant. There was a time she was not so friendly but I realized that she was sick; there was a neighbor who was only 36 years old who died in 2010. He had surgery that killed him, then we had a friend who died suddenly at home. Neither me or my mother attended the funeral because we could not deal with it.
