Depression Supporters Support Group
This community is dedicated to spouses, children, relatives, co-workers and others who are actively supporting someone suffering from depression or other serious mental illness. Depression can bring about intense sadness, melancholia or despair that has advanced to the point of being disruptive, which can have a grave impact on the ability of others trying to help.
If he's allowed to just lay in bed and sleep all day, then his depression will get worse until he just decides not to live anymore. He needs to be under the care of a Psychiatrist and probably on medication.
Its hard to stay in a relationship where the other person is basically a ghost....if he's not made to do things, then he'll continue to be that ghost.
We tried to find solutions but it's been very trying. His family has been staying over for a week now and he wants them to come again next weekend. However I feel overpowered by his mother who doesn't respect my ways of parenting. My own child is barely in my arms at all and I feel at the edge myself now. On one hand, I am grateful for their support and I do not want to upset my already very depressed partner but I do not want them again so soon. On the other hand my partner really relies on his mother for support. I would like him to stay with them rather than them coming over. He is the one who needs their support not me and not my baby and I feel his mother is satisfying her needs towards the baby first. I am feeling very down now. I feel unable to support my partner and unable to protect my child.
I hope you are doing better than me. I think that a family therapy might be the best way to go for us and I hope my partner will accept, as I really need some practical and mental support to find a common ground with my partner in getting the whole family through this crisis. Those are scary times. Please let me know how you're getting on. I hope your situation has improved.
Kind regards
