Hey hey,

I forgot to ask the bazillion health professionals I saw today, but as I sit here with my sore scratchy throat..

Does anyone know, or have any idea as to why warfarin can cause sore throats? It just seems like a bizarre side effect, but I can't find any info on it.

Im glad that someone else has been experiencing this. Unfortunately i dont know why it happens either but im glad that its not just me!
I take my warfarin at 7pm every night and evry morning i wake up with a sore throat that gets better throughout the day. Do you experience this also or do you have it all day?

im on warfarin because i have factor v and was told to drink loads of water because of dehydration not sure if its the warfarin or the factor v that causes this although before i was on warfarin i was never very thirsty now i drink gallons of water a day

I'm on Warfarin, and I have noticed an increase in the amount of liquid I take on board, I'm much more thirsty now then I ever used to be, however my urine is still quite dark, I've never suffered from a sore throat upon waking, only blood from my gums, which I've had for a month or so.

hi there.i started warfarin 2 weeks ago and have had 2 or 3 sore throats since.really interesting question,because i never associated them with warfarin.i just thought i was getting even more things wrong with me!gargling with salt seems to help

I'm bringing back this thread because I have a terrible sore throat for almost 4 weeks now. The throat culture I had done turned up negative for everything, including strep! The only thing I can think is that this might be a form of candida (oral thrush - systemic yeast infection) -- since I had been on antibiotics for a few weeks when I first had my PEs.

Does anyone know what to do about this? Does warfarin cause physical damage to the throat? Thanks.

I don't think warfarin damages your throat. My throat is often sore or scratchy, but it's due to allergies (all that stuff drains and irritates your throat) and because I have an enlarged thyroid.

I don't know where you live but I'm in the midwest, and we've had the heat on almost every days since October. The air in our house is so dry and I think that causes that sore throat feeling too.

Hope they figure it out for you.
