Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
Question about tights / pantyhose
Daffnae
I haven't been wearing compression stockings. None of my doctors mentioned it to me, and in general I haven't had many issues with the DVT in my leg. I had compression stockings from my knee surgery, and I did wear those around the house the one week my leg was swelling a little more.
I have some business trips coming up, and fall is approaching. This reminded me that I usually wear regular tights during the winter and hose for business meetings. Since these can be tight in places, but aren't designed like compression stockings, are they actually bad for me to wear?
I'll be coming off warfarin in December, but I do have some ongoing risks for DVT as I am hetero Factor V Leiden positive. I would appreciate any thoughts you have on the topic, in case I need to be revising my wardrobe a little bit.
Thanks!

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
What I did stop wearing were boots that go up just below my knee or that hit anywhere on my calf. That feels uncomfortable and binding, and honestly, even if I wanted to wear them, I can't even zip them up because my DVT leg is about an 1-1 1/2 bigger than my non DVT leg.
Fear them not. I began wearing thigh-high compression hose on flights to/.from Asia a couple of years ago. About the same time, I started wearing knee-highs when I am going to be standing or just sitting. They make a big difference. I use the medium compression and I have them fitted.... a pricey way to go. From now, I think I will order them on the net. Hope that helps.

Quite agree that companies shouldn't promote stuff on here, particularly when a lot of us are frantic for anything to make life a bit more bearable & are therefore very vulnerable to whatever junk they try to throw at us as a 'miracle cure'.
Incidentally, does anyone know if those things work? They look extremely weird....... 'discreet', erm, no......can't see it, myself. =D
I was seriously looking at his thread and asking myself, what the heck is R talking about?
All good!!!
I came off warfarin 5 years ago and haven't had any problems thus far, even though I'm FVL hetero, like you. I wear fitted compression hose when I'm travelling long distance. For normal wear I have tights or medium support hose (I get mine at JCPenny for like $7). They give a little support while being comfortable for all-day wear.
I have one pair of knee boots that I can wear, but not all day. My DVT leg is only about a quarter-inch larger, but I have varicose veins that meet the top of the boot.
Find what works for you, and you may change it up as you go.
