Even though my clot was in 2012 & I haven't been on blood thinners since 2013, I do still get pain in the clot area (calf) occasionally & my foot aches. For a long time it scared the heck out of me as sometimes it's bad, sometimes not, & nothing in particular triggers it. May not work for everyone, but I'd read that potassium could help with vein damage, so I drink OJ & have a banana every day & it has reduced the leg pain. I have a reminder at work every hour to move around, whether that be getting up from my desk or doing foot exercises to keep my circulation moving. After a clot our bodies are never 100% the same anymore, & it's hard to know when to work through it or have it checked out, but if in doubt, have it checked for peace of mind.

My clots were in 2007 and 2014, but I still have occasional aches and pains. My hard drive sits under my desk, so I prop my foot up during the day. I also have a cheap exercise ball under my desk that I'll roll around to keep my legs moving. Nothing's perfect, but every bit helps.

My clot was in 2007 and still have occasional aches and pains as well. Sometimes riding my bike helps, sometimes getting up and walking around helps. Sometimes nothing really helps. It's kind of a trial and error thing.

Try getting measured for compression stockings.. I find these really help..

Everyone's comments is a big help for me. I was just in the ER last night with what i thought was another blood clot or PE. Was told i may have vein damage and still reoccurring breathing issues. Will be following up with dr. on Thursday but wanted to see if this is normal. Thanks Moolar for your comments, because my issues sounds similiar. Was taking off my Xaralto a week ago (7/28) and took a trip flying to San Diego from East coast. Seems to set things off. DVT and Cat scan negative for clots.

Baylady, I started flying again right after I stopped thinners, & I think for the 1st 3 or 4 trips, was convinced I'd clotted again, went to get checked out & was negative each time. I had a little bit of leg swelling, pain, chest tightness, & total paranoia that made everything seem worse, but not during the flights themselves but once I was at my destination. My doctor joked after the last one that she knew I'd traveled as it was the only time she saw me outside of the regular physicals. At that point I realized I had to find a way to deal with it if I wanted to continue traveling. It won't be the same for everyone, but I had to remind myself for each trip, I was taking all the necessary precautions, knew all the symptoms of a clot (as was a self trained expert at this point lol) & knew what to do IF I really thought I was clotting again. I had to force myself to relax, do breathing exercises, & generally talk myself out of the fear. I admit, I still have a tiny bit of fear when I travel, but it's under control now. Like every part of this lovely illness, just takes time.
