Wow, you've really done some research on compression socks!
I found some at WalMart that were cheap, breath well, not too much compression, and came in basic black. They're knee-high...I don't recall the compression strength or the % of spandex, but they're called anti-embolism socks and were sold in the pharmacy.

I don't want to sound too negative BUT, you seem to be looking for something that does NOT exist, a comfortable, cheap, compression sock that breaths and...
I'm in the process of purchasing FUGLIES that have a compression of 40 to 50 and believe me, they are NOT comfortable, nor are they attractive in any way, I could endure my Sigvaris 30 to 40 BUT I need more compression for my PTS.
Plus, if you would ask people as oppose to I NEED, I NEED... maybe people may be more willing to help you...

dero, I'm not sure you realize how judgmental you were. I was hoping for leads, not for judgmentalism. But I've discovered that most people with even lesser issues than myself think it's their privilege (due to their issues) to jump to conclusions re: others who may be in even more pain than themselves. I used to experience that years ago on the FMS boards, which spurred me to discontinue wasting my time. They were mostly interested in aimless chatter, rather than getting to core issues of why/how.

Fact is, for me, typing online is like being on a hot tin roof. I have a slow dial up connection (no thanks to the digital divide). This is what's most responsible for zapping my health yet further, since everything is online now. There's no escaping it.

On top of that there's impossible other issues elsewhere in my life right now, not to mention that these forums are geared for DSL systems (as are most sites nowadays).

WHY OH WHY didn't i learn from my experience with fibromyalgics?

To get back on topic:

I phoned the personnel at local Walmart (which process in itself is agonizing due to their customer non-service) and after an hour of rude cutoffs finally found out that Mediped doesn't ship them socks for size 5 feet. They start at size medium (shoe size 8) which is another issue i constantly face in the current world that's dedicated to big people and ignore those who fall thru the cracks.

I looked into skyhights because they were recommended at www.airhealth.org, and they have considerably outlasted the Futuro ones from the drug store. I basically wear one as an underlayer for my affected leg with executive-length cotton overlaying.

I did not split fibers over composition if only because they worked, but that is a suitable thing to be curious about.

Apparently it is the same lady who runs the business, takes the orders, and deals with any issues with a consciencious small-business attitude. I did have a problem with one delayed shipment due to backorder, but she got on top of it and threw an extra pair in the order. I suggest contact skyhighs111@yahoo.com with your questions. Minni, I'm sorry your computer system sucks and I'm sorry you're in pain and I'm sorry you're frustrated and I'm sorry you're miserable, but geez, cut people on this site some slack, please.

We're just average people whove had a DVT or PE or both, have pain, have ups and downs, been scared and been frustrated too. Some of us are dealing with other chronic medical problems along with the DVT/PE. We try to share what we've been through, in the hopes that it helps others and we try to learn from each other's experiences. Sometimes, we chat about stuff that's heavy and sometimes, it's just to complain about taking warfarin or wearing stupid stockings or how irritated we are with our doctors.

You are demanding really specific information with regards to stockings and we aren't professional durable medical equipment people or compression stocking fitters. Most of us just wear the stockings we were prescribed or, through trial and error, or luck, found a pair that we liked at the drug store.

As for Dero's comments being judgmental, I think that's a stretch. Frankly, you have no idea what people have been through either. Some people on this site came THIS close to dropping dead from a PE. So trust me, everyone's got his or her stuff to deal with.

I found one you might look into at Walgreens, called the Rejuvenizer Athletic Support Sock in firm compression 20-30 mmHG. The ones I like are ankle high, but they also make calf high.
They are 50% cotton, 35% elastic and 15% polyester. They're different from my Walmart medipeds in a couple important ways:
The elastic is visible - looks like it's a cross between a sock and an ace bandage, with the "bandage" part wrapping around the foot and ankle, and cotton sock at toe, heal and if you get the calf high ones, up the calf. Does that make sense? These were also $10 at Walgreens - and I bought mine in store but maybe you could order online? Another plus for you: they fit shoe size 4-10.5. I'm a 7.5, and they fit me great. They are white athletic-looking socks - not black like the medi peds. They also have more compression than medi peds, but in all the right places, for me anyway...
