All this Forbidden

I know that we all have issues at times whether it is my computer or DS.  Often we get through it.  But I would just love to know the explanation of all the Gateways.


I've had a 404 page not found.


504 Gateway time out.


403 Forbidden.


I sooo hate it when I sent a post and doesn't go through.  On some Gateways I get them back.  On other's not so much and so frustrating.


Please if you will explain to me all the difference and reasons why.

I don’t know this for sure since I don’t work in IT or work for DS but in my experience generally, I understand these to be following:

404 Page Not Found likely means the post was removed/deleted either by the person who posted it or DS

504 Gateway timeout is a server related issue, probably on DS’ side

403 Forbidden seems like a message when you don’t have permission to see someone’s post like they have a privacy setting on or not everyone has permission to view it. But I think the 404 forbidden can also be something with the website’s settings behind the scene blocking access.

Again not saying this is all accurate but just an assumption. If someone knows better please correct me.

I just accept the site can be glitchy.

Also these codes are not unique to DS. They are standard website related error codes. Those starting with 4s are considered client error codes. Doesn’t mean you are necessarily doing anything wrong but rather the client request is denied for various reasons like you are trying to access something you may not have access to. It can just be a temporary issue. The codes that start with 5s are usually a server error.

Thank you all for your help with the codes. I am understanding a bit better now.

rmb, I agree. I have for so many year's accepted that this site can be a bit glitchy.

    62F and raining and more rain.It is a miserable day outside and that means working inside. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to inside but there is always something and of course there are my issues with OCD and ADHD. Those combined are actually at times paralysing on what to do. Right now I'm watching this dude on TV that once a week he does a complete yard clean-up for someone completely free....
