Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
You know that is a good idea.I have about 4 medical conditions I'd have to fit on there somehow. How big are those things anyway? Are we supposed to put our medical conditions or the inportant/dangerous medications we take for them?If we put the medications, will they be mistaken for allergies/adverse reactions to first aid givers? A very good thing to know,JennyMay.Thanks.
Here is a site that actually make pretty cute medical alert bracelets. They area bit expensive but since I will be wearing one for life I figured I would splurge. They actually have interchangeable bands so you can change up the look, Mine says:
(front)
My name
Facttor V Leiden
Homozygous
On Warfarin
5.0 to 7.5 mg/day
(on back)
ER Contact
Husbands name
His phone #
Sons phone #
PCN Allergy
So there is plenty of room for the engraving but the actual tag is not big or bulky. The actual medical symbol can be pink, blue or purple, black, or red. I chose pink. There are lots of choices of colors for the beads and crystals and use gold, silver or a decent looking sterling which is the most economical. They have a smokey quartz and gold bracelet that I really like but too expensive for me. The one I bought is hematite and silver Bali beads with the sterling tag. Its kind of neutral and goes with most things. I chose not to say I have DVT because I may not have one in a year or so (hoping) but will always have the clotting disorder so I would guess they would check for DVT in an emergency. :)
On Warfarin
I also have a wallet card that is more specific with emergency contacts and my ever-changing dose. Mine is a basic stainless steel bracelet with the symbol - the cute bracelets are nice but I felt they could be overlooked as just "regular" jewelry.
I was looking into the ones crazymamma mentioned as they are better for when you don't plan on having your wallet with you - like when you go rock climbing or hang-gliding or cliff-diving. You can probably fit your entire medical history in it.
So I put:
On anticoagulants
INR 2-3
ICE (partner's mobile number)
That's all the info they need for an emergency.
Once I've been to see the specialist and had length of treatment etc. confirmed I'm thinking of splashing out on a pretty bracelet, too :-)
I've worked with these bracelets several times in my past from being a nurse and they save lives!
I hope this was helpful.
