Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
Lovenox/Clexane- effects last how long?
JennyMay
I have a 10 hour flight to Maui coming up, and need to have an injection beforehand. How long do the effects of Lovenox/Clexane last? Someone suggested 12 hours because you generally take the injections 12 hours apart (If taking two a day). If this is the case I'll need to have the injection, at the most, 2 hours before my flight. What I'm trying to determine is whether or not I'll have time to race to a doctors surgery and back before the flight, as I'm uncertain about giving myself the injection. I've already enquired at Sydney Airport Medical Centre but they'll be closed the day I fly *Sad face*.
I am taking 160mg aspirin daily (for the rest of my life), and have been off Coumadin for nearly a year now. I will be wearing compression stockings the entire flight.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
Remember what RMB said, it's a piece of cake...

Pharmacology and Pharmacokinetics of Enoxaparin
Enoxaparin catalyzes the binding of antithrombin III with both factor Xa and factor IIa. Anti-factor Xa and anti-factor IIa activity results in anticoagulation. For enoxaparin, the ability to neutralize factor Xa and factor IIa is approximately a 4:1 ratio.
Enoxaparin is Lovenox (Clexane)
The bioavailability of enoxaparin given subcutaneously is 92%. The volume of distribution of enoxaparin, based on anti-factor Xa activity, is 6 liters (in an average patient).
The elimination half-life of enoxaparin administered subcutaneously, based on anti-factor Xa activity, is 4.5 hours and is primarily renal. The maximum anti-factor Xa and anti-factor IIa activity occurs 3 to 5 hours after injection. In addition, the anti-factor Xa activity persists in the plasma for about 12 hours after a 40 mg dose.
