Okay my sister started to ask questions about the pain I go through. I was hit hard and fast, major calf swelling, redish colour, and the pain in the first month.( I could only walk for about two mins tops,and I would also start sweating it would be so unbarable.) I thought what I could compare it to that she could understand. Could I even compare it to givng birth? I know Bill Cosby discribed it as "taking your lower lip and streching it over your head till you hit the back of your neck.(He he I chucked little thinking about it.) I know its not always the most comfortable thing to experience.

What do you think lady's, I would like to know what you think.

Having never given birth myself, I can't say for sure if it's similar to that. Pains kind of abstract and subjective.

I've broken several bones throughout my life and they've all hurt like hell, some more than others. My DVT pain, on some days, was worse than broken bone pain, to me, but pain for pain, they were quite different.

I'd describe DVT pain like a never ending charlie horse turned up to 11 (for all you Spinal Tap fans).

Not promoted to lady yet, but feel compelled to chime in :-)

I've been told by my wife that the only comparable pain to childbirth is a kidney stone and since my wife has done both (kids and stones) and I have only had the 'pleasure' of the stone I am much more sympathetic... So using the Kevin Bacon logic linkage thingy... The DVT was Ouch, the stone was OUch, but when you spinkle in the PE where you can't breath while your leg is hurting like poo, I rate the entire experience an OUCH that and the fact that every other medical person you met in the ER kept telling you your lucky to be here hahaha ! Rock on ! -P

The pain is totally like giving birth except you can't ask for an epidural. You are right in your comparison

The pain from my Pe was so intense for me-I actually became delirious and irrational- like insisting on brushing my teeth before my boyfriend took me to the hospital- now mind you. I couldnt walk because of the pain in my leg and couldnt breathe but I did I demanded to brush those teeth- so I crawled to the bathroom . I then involuntarily screamed all the way to the hospital and while trying to register. . Looking back I feel sorry for anyone who was in the waiting room!! They had to give me morphine so that I could lay back to get the Cat scan. My last dvt pain was like a never ending charley horse (x100)!!!

Having given birth with an augmented labor but no pain meds (I don't recommend it), I place that pain at a 10 and the DVT pain at 9.5 but never ending. It is bad! With the DVT, the first doctor gave me Delaudin because I had so much pain (crying through the x-ray). That's why I didn't buy the second hospital doctor's diagnosis of "rough knee cap irritation". That pain I am familiar with and it is a 5 at the worst. It took 3 more weeks till I saw the family doc, for him to do a doppler.

Let me tell you this, I would have rather been giving birth than going through my DVT. And I had my DVT two weeks after having my baby. So I mean...there you go. :)

I agree that the pain does compare to childbirth....only the sweating, nausea, and discomfort for me seemed more like a heart attack in my leg. Even though I had no history or no forewarning, my scream to my husband upon walking on my leg was that either I had a blood clot or my psiatic (splg) nerve had gone crazy.....However, the pain after my first and second hospitalization and subsequent third (as I was not responding to coumadin and my clot continued to GROW)). I was numb to the pain by that time ( 2weeks)

Ive had two babies and on both occasions had no pain relief while giving birth.
But with my DVT the full lengh of my leg and a broken foot, ive had Morphine, Tramadol and Co- codamol exspecialy in the first 2 weeks.
Im nearly 3 months into my DVT and still have severe pain on and off.
I must say I would rather go through child birth anytime, than have DVT.

I have had 3 children, OUCH... But my DVT was not so bad. I would describe it as like a charlie horse. Thats it, but it was caught within two days of having initial pain.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
