My hematologist won't let me do the Prevent target INR of 1.5 -2.0, says that being FVLx2 is too big of a risk, and told my PCP that I need to stay in the 2-3 range forever.

My PCP and I both really wanted to do the lower target, so we compromised and are now aiming for 2.0. I used to take 10 mgs of warfarin on M, W, F, and 7.5 mgs the rest of the week, and had a bear of a time trying to get into range, so I thought staying on the low side is gonna be a piece of cake.

I'm down to taking 10 mgs on Monday only, 7.5 the rest of the week. And my INR continues to shoot up. WTF. Since I've started decreasing my warfarin, my INR's have been increasing... 4.0, 4.5, 3.9, 2.9, 3.3.

Sometimes I really think the universe is playing some kinda twisted joke on me

This is fascinating to me. I used to be on 15 mgs of warfarin and my INR was always below 2 and then eventually it started climbing so we switched between alternating 12mg and 15 mgs a day. Still irratic and kept bottoming out. I switched doctors and he changed it to 12mgs Mon - Sat and 11 mgs on Sundays. And I've been therapuetic on that dose for over a year with no dosage changes. I can't explain why lower warfarin made my INR not bottom out any longer. I'm starting to think it has to with how the different dosages are aligned during the week. I dunno. Freakin' weird man.

You could be right about that. They just called and told me to go to 7.5 all the time - no more 10 mg days. And retest in a week. Told them they should just put me on the freakin' payroll, I've been at that clinic just about every week for the past 2 years.

Plus I'm kinda freaking a bit because I've been having more nose bleeds - it's always shocking when I dab at my sniffly nose and the kleenex comes back bright red. I think, " just keep the broken veins confined to my nose, that's cool. No closer to my brain though, please".

Have you had your air conditioning on lately? My nose gets so dried out from that, that and allergies right now. I don't have full blown nose bleeds but have a lot of blood in my snot, for lack of a better word. Well, there probably is a better word, but...

Since this whole Bret Michaels thing, I've been a little obsessed with brain hemorrages. So, I'm with you- keep the blood confined to the nose.

And yeah, for the first two years on warfarin, I believe I paid for all the expansion costs at St Luke's, just on my lab visits alone.

They'll get the INR and dosage sorted out. Keep the faith!

UPDATE: After a week at the lower 7.5 mg/day dose, you guessed it, my INR has INCREASED to 3.4.
So dosage is again decreased to 7.5 e/o day and 5 mgs the rest of the time. "recheckinaweek".

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
