Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.

I have being on Warfarin for almost 6 months, suppose to go off the end of February. I have had really no problems staying within the 2-3 range until the last 3 weeks. 3 weeks ago it was up to 3 so they cut my dose back a little bit - had it retested a week later and it was 1.8. Doc told me to stay with that dose since I did have more greens then normal. Had it retested again and it was 3.7. I am cut back even further. Getting tested again next week. What the heck is going on? Haven't really had any changes in diet.
On another note did my first flight since the clot and maybe it was good my INR was a little high. Went to Vegas and did a ton of walking and DVT leg held up pretty good. NO swelling at all - I was wearing my stocking. It did get a bit achy but nothing I couldn't handle.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
Did you have more green then normal or did you not change your diet?
Sometimes it just takes a bit of vitamin K, to throw your whole INR out of whack, then too much of a cutback on your dosage can start a pendulum effect... INR work is not an exact science, since everybody reacts ever so differently to warfarin.
It could also be that you're fighting off an infection, or that you're getting more/less sleep, or any of a dozen other things besides just your diet.
Seriously, don't focus so much on your diet (although I imagine you might have been eating a little differently in Vegas as well...). Sometimes I swear the phase of the moon affects my warfarin.
My dosage for when I was sitting at 2.6 range was:
Mon - 7
Tues - 8
Wed - 7
Thurs - 7
Fri - 7
Sat - 8
Sun - 7
Then it went to 3 and they cut me back to 7.5 on Tuesdays and Saturdays staying at 7 the rest of the time. I think the reason they cut me back a bit is because I was bruising a bit more than usual.
So after the dose change I got a blood test a week later and it was 1.8. They said to stay at that since I did have more greens that week. They had me test again the next week and it came back 3.7 on that lower dose. That was just before I went to Vegas. The nurse called me in Vegas and let me know what it was.
I was told to skip Tuesday dose and stay at 7 everyday except to go to 6 mgs on Saturday and the following Tuesday. I am to get tested again next week.
So it has being a bit up and down. I would rather stay at 3 than 1.8.
I've been stable on as little as 4 mg daily up to 7.5 daily. No noticeable differences in diet or lifestyle between them. I gave up on trying to understand.
