Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
How did you know you had another DVT?

Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with my first DVT/BPE in Nov. 2013. I didn't have the leg pain, swelling, or discoloration that some people have, so I didn't even know it was a DVT until they did a CT scan and said that both of my lungs were full of little clots. I went to a Hematologist a year later and he said not to come back unless it happened again! I went to another Hematologist last fall and he said basically the same thing. I put myself on aspirin and I watch my diet and I also take some dietary supplements, but every now and then I get a bit breathless or I get pains in my inner thigh in both legs, where just the left had the clot, and it really scares me. I had my regular doctor look and since there was no swelling and no discoloration, she said it was nothing. If anyone else has had this kind of experience, please let me know how you knew you had another one. I really feel a bit loss as to how I'm supposed to know!!
Thanks!
Megan

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
Clot #3 was diagnosed on August 11 of this year. It was in the left leg and I thought the swelling came from mosquito bites. I had lumps on the inside of my lower leg and then my ankle got swollen too. I was in complete shock when a week later, during a routine checkup, the doctor noticed the swollen ankle and sent me off to the hospital for a leg scan. Yup, those mosquito bites turned out to be clots in two different veins.
So my answer would be a big red alert for me is a swollen ankle. It's hard to notice a second clot in the same leg because the leg is already swollen to some extent and discolored from the first clot.
Pretty scary.
I will says that when it comes to my leg, I still have intermittent pain and discomfort, and my DVT was in 2007. So that's also just part of the damage from the clot. I guess if there were no obvious symptoms like redness and swelling, then I would look for signs of pain that gets worse, is not intermittent, on going cramping, etc. Unfortunately, not all DVTs feel the same.
