Hematoma from Coumadin?

Hi,

It's me again. So tonight I was getting my INR test. The nurse was sticking and sticking and it hurt like hell. No blood was coming out. I finally start crying it hurt so bad so she decided to give it up and try the other arm, which was no porblem.

Fast forward to me taking off the bandaid just now.I think I have my first hematoma. Its about 2 inches long and there is a dark part that is raised. I guess I will call my MD (After all she hasnt heard from me in 3 days) but I assume this is made worse by being on Coumadin? Is it anything to be concerned about?

Im not one of the expert people, but yeah, I would go to doc if its raised and sore. Could be infected from the needle she poked so many times. You never know. Thats just my non expert opinion.

I get them on my hand from blood draws all the time. I just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't keep getting bigger . Personally, I'd not call the doctor on this unless it continues to grow or isn't getting better. But that's me. If concerned, then call. I mean, she probably misses you after not hearing from you in 3 days, ha ha!

Yeah, you may be more susceptible to getting hematomas while being on warfarin. Also, I had an acupuncture treatment once that caused a tennis ball size hematoma on my ankle. You can get them from taking lovenox injections as well. I've had small ones from that.

What I ended up doing was leaving a message for the anti-coagulation nurse. She called me back and said just keep an eye on it...if it gets bigger or hurts more let them know. She said I could try heat on it but that doesnt sound like somehting I want

Yeah, treating with heat seems counter intuitive to me

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
