Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.

So check it out - I sit on my butt all day in front of a computer, and even though I work from home and could get up any time I want, you know how it goes. You start working and next thing you know 3 hours have gone by and the only muscles you've moved are in your fingers. Not good for anyone, and really not good for a clotter.
So I got one of those stability balls (AKA: fitness ball, swiss ball) and I use that for my office chair - what a difference. Now I'm always moving and engaging different muscle groups, but mostly my lower body. I've noticed when I sit the pressure is more on my butt and less on my upper thighs (my clot runs high into my left upper thigh). Plus I can roll it or lightly bounce on it using my thigh and calf muscles. It's really, really comfortable, and it even prevents me from slouching or leaning on my hand and elbow while I'm at my desk.
Who knows, maybe someday I'll even exercise with it. Anyway, if you have an opportunity to try it, let me know what you think. I found my Danskin Ball at the evil empire (WalMart) on sale for $10. If you get one, make sure it's the large size, and inflate it to a comfortable height.

Great idea. My friend does a lot of knitting and bead work and her posture is getting really bad because of it. She bought one of these balls and she said it really helps. The only problem is her cats like it a little too much... the whole claw thing.

I love this idea! I have stability balls and have seen people use them as chairs before....great way to get extra exercise and keep the blood flowing. I've been off of warfarin for a month now and continue to do lots of walking and leg exercises, but always feel a bit vulnerable when I sit at the computer for too long....I will get my large fitness ball inflated today!

I love this idea. I'm on my way out the door to pick one up. I figure I can even use it if I have the time to watch a movie. I have just started to do my weights again for my arms,I'm thinking I can sit on it then just for a little more help.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
