Getting a Test Done Today

I am headed off to the hospital for a TEE. That is a test that looks at the hole in my heart to determine if that is where the blood clots are sneaking off into my brain from causing these strokes. I sure hope I get an answer....

On a different note - I can't wait for it to be over so that I can eat!!

Did they diagnosis you with Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) or are they determining if you have that condition?

Believe it or not I have yet to hear from my primary doctor! The heart doc told me something after the procedure, but I don't remember what he said. I called my doc the day after the test and yesterday, but I have not heard from her. I guess that's good news, right?

I'm sure it's positive, but make sure your doc got your message. Are you leaving messages with the receptionist or with one of her nurses? Usually when I need a call back from my doc, I don't leave the message with a receptionist. I ask to speak to a nurse or PA.

Also, if it were me, I'd call the cardiologist office and tell them you don't remember some stuff you were told and could they just remind you.

This is your health, your body. Don't wait around for answers.

Spoke with the nurse just now. It is confirmed that I have the PFO, hole in my heart, with right to left shunt (or something or other). I was told that I will discuss it further with the doc on 6/26. I feel as though I want to insist that I have the surgery to repair it. My blood has bee all over the place - only just therapeutic the last two tests (2.2 and 2.4). I don't mind being on Coumadin for the rest of my life, but I want to be absolutely sure that I will be more up around 3 than under 2.

Is your INR directly related to your hole in your heart?

If my INR is not therapeutic then I may be producing blood clots which could travel through the PFO. It has already happened twice causing two TIAs.

Ahh... ok I get it.

Ugh, that seems like a long time to wait for your appt.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
