Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. I was diagnosed with ideopathic gastroparesis two years ago. With my recent DVT/PE, I came across the research below linking the two. I can't find any other research that duplicates these findings. Do any of you have information about this connection?
Researchers at the University Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi have begun routinely evaluating all their gastroparetic patients for blood-clotting abnormalities. What prompted their search was due to the fact that many of their idiopathic gastroparetic patients would develop deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary emboli.
Their findings: 89% of the patients tested for hypercoagulation disorders showed detectable abnormalities. Of these patients, some had hereditary forms of hypercoagulation problems, while many others had acquired variations of hypercoagulation.

So, while this is not gastroparesis, I wonder if having messed up GI issues in general can be a risk factor. Interesting.
