I was on Xarelto first, and then switched to Eliquis. both gave me some nasty side effects. However, they are both similar drugs, in the effect that they both inhibit the same protien, I think Factor Xa, in the blood that promotes clotting.

I switched to xarelto a few years ago from warfarin. I have no issues with xarelto. I don’t think one is better or worse than the other, just that some people have some side effects from either, or.

Thanks for your replies. I spent a few hours doing research on the new anticoagulants and for the time being I will stick with Warfarin as I have never had any side effects.

Are the home INR test meters available in the US? If so maybe that would save trips to the coag clinic.

I have had three separate instances of DVT over the past 18 years and there was no cause for them. I have had my blood tested twice and no blood disorders were found either. I had an incident of internal bleeding a while back which was pretty scary. Spent the day in the hospital and at the end of the day was told by the doctor that they did not know where the blood was coming from. After three days it stopped. Like I said, I'm just tired of being a lifer.

I just left the hospital yesterday after having a pulmonary embolism. I was put on Eliquis and told it was the only one showed to also prevent strokes. It’s pricey especially compared to Warfarin.

I'm on xarelto and it's okay. It's all I've ever taken. I've only taken it four years now. I did have to go into the hospital last month. I walk my day four to five miles a day and had been having dizzy spells. I past out beside the road. I have no idea how long I was out but when I came to my dog was still with me. I got up and walked the mile back home. I ended up in the emergency room two days later. I had a teeny tiny bruise on my brain. They kept me over night and I was back home the next day. I do remember I was on the tractor when a limb came under the canopy and whacked me a good one on that side of my head. Boy it hurt but I kept mowing the field.

I will say that I've had several falls and this was the first time I had to go to the hospital When you have a farm and horses sometimes you get bumped by a horse or there just happens to be a tree root uncovered that you just don't see.

Xarelto is easy to take and doesn't interfere with my daily routine. I can eat what I want and no testing. That's the best part of taking Xarelto.
