Is this swelling new, or has it been like this since your diagnosis. Is it like this all the time, or is it just after spending a lot of time on your feet? Do you have compression stockings?

I have the same exact kind of swelling. My follow up ultrasound at 6 weeks after dvt/pe diagnosis my clot in my calf is still occluded (blocking my popiteal vein) the vascular dr might do surgery to remove the clot.
Im nervous about this but at this point this swelling is worse than the fracture I had in the firsr place.

Also Jaylucky, warfarin doesn't prevent swelling. It prevents new clots from forming and existing clots from growing. When you have a DVT, your veins and valves can get damaged so swelling is not unusual even well after your clot. I always have ankle and foot swelling in my DVT leg, and my clot was in 2007. Sometimes the swelling is significant and sometimes it's just a little bit. In fact, my entire DVT leg is now about an inch bigger in diameter than my other leg. Waddya gonna do.

Thanks to everyone ...new job on my feet 8 hours more a day ...lots of small bursts of pain and just learning to live with it .

Ask your doctor about wearing compression stockings. You can buy them at the drug store but I think having your doc recommend the stocking type, and the compression grade so they are customized to you is better.

If possible, try to get the clot removed as your vascular suggest. If it is possible to remove the clot, it is quite possible that you would restore the blood flow to the veins as normal and the swelling may stop. This naturally depends on how damaged the valve veins are, but this is difficult to determine. There are several approaches possible, some are more invasive than others, but you would always need to take some time from work to allow recovery. The other option is live with this swelling and use strong compression stockings. Also, venowave may be an option http://www.venowave.com/. It is likely that the clot is now fully hardened and unlikely to decrease in size.

Several years ago, some members posted about success with the venowave. I think though it's expensive and likely not covered by insurance in the US. I know some people bought used ones on eBay but I recall there being some problems with buying them used and not working properly. That's just based on what I remember from some old discussions on this board.
