Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.

Hi all - Unbelievably I just passed the 6 month mark from my clot. I am seeing the hematologist next week and hope for a good report. In the meantime though I have a situation. I may have mentioned previously that I also have rheumatoid arthritis. I am on a monthly infusion and am generally well controlled. Until the last 4 weeks.....I had pain in the joints of one hand and wrist and have been toughing it out till yesterday when it went after the other hand too (boo...hiss). My understanding was that I cannot take nsaids. I reached out to my rheumatologist and she said I cannot take the one I used to take, but I can take Celebrex. She prescribed it for me. I took one this afternoon and along with a Tramadol, it is helping (yay!).
But worrier that I am, I am worried. Has anyone taken Celebrex or nsaids while on (or off) warfarin. I am still on it, but am hoping to escape it's evil grasp next week. Naturally I will ask the hematologist about this but wondering if any of you have had this expereince?
Thanks....Happy Friday!

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.

But, a few weeks ago my upper arm and shoulder started to hurt. The pain became almost unbearable. I iced it, I was taking non-aspirin all day long and I could not sleep. I finally called my internist and told her that I desperately needed some pain meds and that Tylenol was just not doing it for me. She called in a prescription for Tylenol 3 which is Tylenol with Codeine. I took two before bed and although the pain does not go away completely, I am able to sleep a bit bitter.
Long story short, I have a history of shoulder pain. I am 64 years old and I also have osteoporosis. I had a frozen shoulder 7 years ago which came after breaking my wrist in 4 places. Occasionally pain flares up and it's nice to know that there are other pain meds out there that I can take in addition to just plain old Tylenol.
I only take the Tylenol 3 at bedroom and use the regular Tylenol during the day. It seems to be working and my shoulder and arm are feeling a bit better.
So from bleed standpoint, it's a better option than other NSAIDs, it sounds like. Still may mess with your INR but hell, what doesn't.
Read the pain management portion of this patient article:

Hope that answers your question? Even though the article pertains to post thrombotic syndrome rather then arthritis,
Celebrex is listed as one of the pain management medications that can be used.
