calf pain.........

Hi, im new to this group, just wondering if anybody can identify with a recurring 'pain' i have been having.... i dont like to go to my GP for little things, so thought i would ask here 1st.....
I have been getting for the past 4/5 weeks now, random sudden deep sharp pains in the side of my right calf...almost as though a hot poker has suddenly jabbed deep inside my leg, it can last for minutes at a time, or on and off for a few hours, although its not agony, it is rather painful and usually hot around the area. Has anyone had a similar pain, do you think it is something i should be concerned about, like the start of something nasty? Thanks D.x

I think if you're concerned enough to ask about it, you should discuss it with your doc.

It's hard for anyone here to say if you should be concerned. I mean, most of us had pain in our calf of some sort that was related to a dvt so we'd likely all say yeah get it checked out. It's hard for any of us to be objective about that.

Your pain isn't too much like MY experience with DVT, but the thing is everyone can have a little bit of a different feeling with it. Like rmb said, basically most anyone here will tell you what she said, if you're concerned enough to ask here then you should talk to your doctor about it. I think in general we have pretty good instincts regarding our bodies and we sort of know when something isn't quite right. Aside from that, because I have experienced pulmonary embolism, I would not discourage someone who is concerned they have a DVT from consulting with their doctor, because even if it doesn't sound like a DVT to me, I sure wouldn't want the responsibility of telling someone they have nothing to worry about and then be wrong. If it concerns you, if it's not improving, then you really need a doctor to decide what to do.

Is there swelling? Is there discoloration of your leg?
I had pain in my calf for several weeks before my leg swelled and turned a purplish color.

Agree with everyone who commented above. Consult your doctor immediately and see what he says about this. It gives a lot of relief to know that it's not something serious like a blood clot.

I noticed calf pain a couple of weeks ago and went straight to see my Dr even though the pain wasn't really that bad. We'd just come home from vacation on long haul flight . My Dr phoned the hospital right away and I went straight there. Sure enough it was a DVT. So please go see you Dr. Hoping that you will be ok

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
