Why aren't they bridging you with lovenox?

I don't know.

Wouldn't that make me just as suceptible to bleeding if any surgery is needed during the colonoscopy/biopsy

This has been my experience with getting a colonoscopy and warfarin:

I stop warfarin 5 days before the procedure.
I start lovenox the day of stopping warfarin or the day after and then take the last dose of lovenox the night before the procedure. Lovenox is out of your system within 12 hours so by the time I have my procedure, I'm anticagulant free, so no risk of bleeding.

After my colonoscopy, depending on the extent of any polyp removal or biopsy, I either start lovenox and warfarin that night, taking the lovenox for about 5 days, and then checking my INR, or I don't start the lovenox or warfarin for a couple of days after to make sure I'm healed well before restarting.

Yipes. My MD did not mention anything to me about that. I called the doc about the colonoscopy because of what the pamphlet said. Damn. I wonder if I should talk to my MD about this or just go with being off the warfarin for the next three days.

I have a lot of colonoscopies because of an chronic illness. So it has now become kind of an automatic thing with me: my GI doc's office schedules the procedure. I get instructions from them in the mail for the prep, when to switch to liquid diet etc. On that sheet, it says if off warfarin, you need to be off it 5 days before the procedure. I then call Internist who manages my warfarin, and say, hey I'm getting a colonoscopy on such and such a date and have to be off warfarin 5 days prior. Can you write me a script for lovenox? And he does. And that's how I've been doing this since 2007.

I'd call your doc just to see what he says.

I meant, the sheet says, if ON warfarin, you need to be off 5 days before...
