Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
5 weeks post DVT dx, & clear on ultrasound?
subwife81
It's been 5 weeks since my DVT- it was posterior tibal mid proximal (if that makes any sense, pretty much the right side halfway up my calf) I've been on Lovenox 2x/day and I'll be 27 weeks pregnant tomorrow.
I was starting to feel better but then my calf started aching randomly about a week ago (I posted about it here)- at the grocery store, at night. There didn't seem to be a pattern for it.
I saw my hematologist on Friday who immediately ordered another ultrasound to make sure the clot wasn't growing.
I went in today and the tech saw NO EVIDENCE of a clot in my calf. I asked the tech if it was possible for a clot to be completely gone after a month and he assured me it was- however why am I still having pain?
Has anyone heard of a DVT being completely gone after a month on ultrasound? Something just doesn't sound right to me. (Although considering it was on the 5th ultrasound of my calf that they found the clot, I admit to not having much faith in calf ultrasounds.)
Thanks for your input. I should hear back from my Dr tomorrow and I will bring it up with him, but I know there are some knowledgeable people on the board!

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
I really do think, especially with smaller clots or with clots that are very new, the clot can disappear pretty quickly once treatment starts and your body gets a chance to dissolve it. My second DVT felt completely better in about a week, I think in part because I started treatment very, very quickly.
As for why you are still having pain, even if the clot is gone, the damage it left behind still has to heal. My cardiologist compared it to getting cut with a knife... most of the healing happens after the knife is gone.
Clots can be very taxing on the body. Parts of your body may be starved of oxygen and blood, while other parts are flooded with it. All of that can cause tissue damage that can take a while to heal. With my PEs, for example, they were gone after five weeks, but I still had aches, pains, exhaustion, for about 11 months as my body healed from all the trauma that they caused. I would expect similar issues to happen with a DVT, even if it is gone.
It really is good news that the clot is gone! That definitely is a good step forward in healing.
Do you mind me asking what your plan for breastfeeding is or do you plan to bottle feed? I just wanted to know what your doctor suggested (Lovenox and all).
