fix for losing text after getting logged out.

This isn't really a fix, but a way around the problem.  I couldn't write all of this in the title.



Anyway, I just wrote a big long reply to someones' post.  Left my puter to do some other things, came back at a later time, finished my reply, hit the send button and it immediately took me to the sign in page.  OK here is what you do.   1.  Don't panic  2.  Don't sign in.  3.  Immediately hit the back key which is the arrow left, just once.  Your text should still be there.  4.  Highlight the text and copy it.  5.  Now you can go back to the sign in page and sign in again.  After you sign in, go back to the post you were replying to and paste the text into the reply box.   Now you won't be able to hit the send button because DS is waiting for you to type something.  It can't recognize pasted text!  So just type one word of text....doesn't matter what it is and THEN  you will see the send button light up!  Now, you can hit the send button and you are good to go!


I am going to stay one step ahead and copy this before I post.

Great tip!!! But then if we hit save (or send or what ever) before leaving the room, that might be better.

Of course I do that all the time (leave before sending) so thanks for the tip!!!

I was kinda surprised that it didn't recognize pasted text. I originally thought my puter froze up when I tried to send and it wouldn't work. All I had to do is type one letter and the send button lit up so that was what tipped me off. So hope this helps until DS can get around to fixing it.

I use the add-on, Lazarus. Sometimes I don't think about copying or even writing off line. Lazarus captures all keystrokes done on the browser. I use firefox. I'm pretty sure its also available for chrome. Couldn't find it for safari. Not sure about WE (or whatever it is now). thanks Bob....I had that happen to me last night I think maybe day before....I was online and my picture was up at top....I wrote a reply to a message I had read and hit send...bango bongo I am AT THE DAMN LOGIN SCREEN....my post was smoke and I did not have this tip in my arsenal of tools to fix my problems with,....thanks again....hugs

My true, I honestly never heard of Lazarus but will look into it.

I have found that DS and TPB have somehow limited the time anyone is on DS. This keeps some from trolling. But, it also causes problems for those of us who don't . Just a thought. For long post, write somewhere else, copy/paste to DS.

Agh! I didn't know that! I was just coming here to complain about losing a long letter to a friend that I just reconnected with. I was making supper while I was writing the letter. This is just so unacceptable. I mean, at least 24 hours. And if a troll wants to come on here, they an do lots and lots of damage under the time limit. And what really ticks me off is that I tried to copy and paste the pm before I hit send, and it did not copy it. What is that about??

This has to be the WORST issue with the new DS. Do they not want us to talk to people or post long posts anymore?

"does not recognize pasted text" -- It recognizes MS Word and OpenOffice, because when I have a reply longer than 2 lines that's what I use. How else could I proofread??

Re trolls, they might as well hang a sign, "Trolls Enter Here" because this "new and improved" DS is ripe for trolling. All they need is a VPN and as many email identities as they want. (Maybe this isn't a problem for some groups, but it is for others.)

Re groups, I belong to 4, according to Daily Strength. But none of them are viable! They were defunct long before DS migrated them here. And the one viable one I did belong to is no longer here.

Also I found, you don't need to write a word to make the send button active, after pasting text, just hit the space bar once. I just did that and it worked.

Marlene, I have had that problem in the past but now I usually place my curser right on the highlighted text and right click "copy" and then I will do it a second time to make sure I have it. That always works for me. Good luck with that.

I should clarify that it doesn't recognize pasted text for the purpose of activating the send button. Hitting any key will fix that.

Better, I have a lot of trouble signing on when I have my vpn turned on so I usually have to deactivate it for DS so I can get here in a hurry. Getting on the old DS was a lot harder.

I have no experience, that I know of, with trolls so I don't know what to say. Maybe DS can come up with a plan on how to deal with them.

no website in the world is without trolling. we do our best whether it is a new member who comes on with the distinct purpose of causing trouble, a member who wants to scam, or a " new member" who is actually an old member who comes back on to cause a little strife which seems to be more common here lately. Are we perfect? no. the cl's do the best we can with what we got at the moment. I do encourage all members who have or are dealing with the different scenerios I described above to either A. report member on your own or B. contact a cl.

It just happened again in a different group. I wrote a response and hit send. It went "poof." All I did was open Lazarus, find the entry which was right at the bottom (because everything in Lazarus is in correct time/date order - unlike ds), hit the copy button & then pasted it into the reply box. I hit send (I hadn't read bobinmaine's last post. And this time it posted. I really wished they would have waited until they had tested and fixed all the bugs before launching.

Mytrue they don't have lazerus for IE but they have something similar, but I think I will install firefox so I can use it.

     I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
