But the links have been an option on this site since....2010?
From my first posts on here back in 2007...DS has made it clear that it's a PUBLIC board. You can mark your journals to private. So I really don't get being a member for years and then suddenly getting upset about the way IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN.
We come here not using our real identity.... People don't have to have a photo of themselves up.... Anyone who wants to can have a private profile so personal info isn't shared unless a member chooses to share it
DS has always been a site that anyone on the internet can be part of if they choose to
I don't think there is very much sharing of information to tell you the truth.... I don't think it's something that many people use
People always could copy and paste what they want.... I don't personally see why this is so disturbing to anyone
Private profiles, journals or messages stay private
There are people with fragile personalities in just about every group here, there are also people with very rugged personalities. So finding out that our site is searchable is not going to hit one group harder than another; it is more a personal thing.
Update: I meant no harm to people who have these diagnoses. My intent was to:
1. Reinforce that PTSD and Bipolars may, more than some other groups, wish to have a modicum of privacy, particularly if they are concerned about others [e.g., workplace] knowing about their conditions.
2. It was never my intent to insinuate that PTSD or Bipolar patients are "less rugged." I'm sure the everyday battles they fight prove they're stronger than most of us. However, these groups [as well as some others] suffer from bouts of depression, which may cause them to be more withdrawn and not be appreciative of what they post being blasted all over the planet.
Again, no offense. Those were my thoughts, albeit expressed poorly. The important take away point here is that it's VERY important to keep your true personal identity hidden in every conceivable way when you post on a forum.
