Two nights ago I was watching Oprah and the topic was on the book "Women Food and God" by Geneen Roth. It really caught my attention so I went to buy the book yesterday. I'm only about 1/2 way through but I'm finding GREAT comfort in it. This may not apply to everyone, but food has always been an issue for me. Ever since I was little I can remember obsessing over food...over eating, under eating, binge eating. I often wonder how much this has affected my disease. I know for sure it hasn't helped. I tend to eat when I'm not feeling good to comfort me and, again, it's not helping my Crohns. This book looks at our relationship with food and teaches us how to get back to living in the moment and not to lose ourselves. I think so much of this disease has to do with food which has only led me to obsess more and more. I would love to hear from anyone who has heard of or read this book, and for those of you who haven't, I highly recommend it!

I've bought several books by this author. And this is a great book. Fortunately, not many foods are triggers for my UC, but one of the reasons I don't do really strict dieting any more is because it leads to food obsession for me.

I have always been an eater. I always ate when I was depressed, sad or lonely. It's hard not to only eat to survive, but I have managed to do so.I am feeling much better now than I was.It has not been easy, but I try my best. Best wishes, hope you start feeling better soon.

I LOVE Geneen Roth; and this book has changed my life! It's a process but I'm working it. Her website is great, I get her newsletter and I'm a fan on facebook which has been a huge help; all the posts there are very inspiring.

Akie ~ I'm so glad you mentioned her websight, I'm going to check it out right now. I have to say I'm having a REALLY hard time meditating. It's such a simple thing but my body feels so uncomfortable doing it? I'm sure practice helps. My family doctor mentioned meditation for my Crohns as well.

Meditation IS hard, but just the practicing and trying it means your mind is already focused elswhere. I am horrible at meditation but I find just the actual attempt starts to relax me.

I have heard of it and have thought about reading it, just haven't yet. I too have issues with food, and because of them I haven't been able to stick to any of the strict diets that are helpful to this disease. The stricter the diet the more I obsessed over food and the more resentful I got - no matter how much they were helping, which they did. But it didn't really matter because all I could think about was food and what I was missing out on. Ironically now that I am on remicade and am feeling good I find myself sticking to a very healthy diet much like one of the ones that I couldn't stick to when I was sick. I guess because it is my "choice" now it is different!

I'm totally know what you're saying. This isn't specific to IBD, but rather, I've been dieting or binging since I've been a child, no matter what my weight, no matter how thin. The stricter the diet, the more obsessed with food I would become. It was pleasure and shame all wrapped up in one. When I stop obsessing about diet, I tend to eat better in general and I tend to enjoy it more. I wonder if that's true because you're body actually starts to regulate itself so that you end up eating more of what you want/like and need on a really basic level vs what you think you should or shouldn't eat.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
