what has worked in reducing/ending flareup

I am a new member to the discussions.Trying a support group is also a first . I have had colitis for many years, with usually a couple of flare ups per year. Lately the flares have been getting more severe with my most current one at 2 months and counting. Sulfasalazine for maintenance and cortisone enema for flairs. Have been getting some relief from enemas but it doesn't last long.
Not having a good relationship with my GI, I thought that was how it was supposed to be. Thanks to reading about others, It had really opened my eyes. I want to thank you all for having this group and ask for any ideas that you might like to share. Thanks

If you are flaring badly and your medication isn't giving relief you should get new meds and/or a new GI doctor. Though, my experience with bad flare ups is limited to only one bad one, prednisone is what got me into remission again. Its a great medication with some bad side effects. But your doctor wouldn't keep you on it for long, and he would soon order you to be weaned off it.

Yeah, I agree with Levi. You may just need a change in meds which is common when you have IBD as the maintenance meds do sometimes quit working over time. If you're not happy with your GI, then change to another one. I think that relationship is very important since this is a chronic disease and you want someone who's there to help you along the way.

For me, as soon as I start flaring, I try to see my GI doc to get a plan in place. I don't let stuff linger any longer than necessary, hoping I'll get better. This is your disease for the long haul, so take control.

Took your advice and went to see my reg Dr. got on Prednisone again and it seems to be helping. Also discussed finding a better fit with a new GI. Thanks for your support. You are right about taking control of the disease and keeping a positive outlook. Will keep you all in my prayers

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
