Does anyone else find that their mood starts to get pretty low when flares start. I have had problems with depression and anxiety for years, but when i am in remission, my mood seems better. when i start to flare, my mood sinks, i need higher dose of anxiety meds, i'm just not myself. my mood changes are not because of how i feel about the flare, i am not emotional about having a flare, been in the UC game too long for it to get to me. it's just something that happens during a flare - from fatigue maybe?

anyone else have this issue?

Yeah, I always get in a funk when I feel like my UC is rearing it's ugly head. I mean, part of it is just not wanting to be in a flare, but the other part is just not feeling good. I think the fatigue and just general feeling unwell affects your mental and emotional health. You get worn down.

I feel pretty down and grumpy when I'm in a flare too. Maybe it's just the stress of the flare as well. It doesn't seem like it's only about it because it seems to be "the norm" sometimes. But I think that planning outings and other things revolve around it and it kind of builds up a little.
I also attribute it to my general feeling of unwell and to the fatigue as well.

I feel like this in so-called 'remission'. Fatigue, general feeling unwell - depression and anxiety. No hope for me in a flare then! Actually my flares seem to be hospitalisations and then the intra-v steroids change you completely.
But yes, a flare takes a lot out of you. Your body is using so much energy fighting the active disease. I'm increasingly of the opinion just having a chronic illness takes a lot out of you. Flare or no flare.

My depression becomes almost unbearable when I'm having a flare...the worst the flare the lower I go. I've read in several places that depression is know to happen with flares and doctors agree it does. And if your on steroids, for me it seems to get worse still. The fatigue doesn't help either. Sometimes I just have to "fake it, 'til I make it" out of the depression, but I can usually overcome it.

I have noticed for me when I get dehydrated it makes me cranky and really emotional. I start crying for any little reason or just feel depressed and want to be alone and lay down and sleep. I think also our bodies go through so much it makes me exhausted physically. I hope they find out a way to help us. This sucks!

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
