Hey Guys,
I wanna start of by saying that I'm not a hippy or believe in things like the power of healing stones or think its significant that were in the age or aquarius or anything like that.
I'm a 25 year old guy as critical about things as the next person. But I'm starting to believe that thinking/beliefs and how we feel could play a big role in UC and crohns.
I remember how this all started I was studying like a mad man for exams in uni. Absolutely screwed, and going to fail the year, my stomach was always tense and I was alway thinking "there's something wrong with my stomach."
I woke up one morning and was constipated. After a day or two I then got diarrhea. After a few days of diarhea I kept thinking "there is something seriously wrong with my stomach!" I went to the doctor and they put me on antibiotics and all the time I kept thinking and feeling that there was something serious going on. Remember I was also under intense pressure form studying.
It went on for 3 weeks where I kept going to the doctor and kept being sent home with stronger antibiotics until finally admitted to hospital and diagnosed.
But the wole time I thought and felt like I had an illness. Even now I was in remission for 8 months from taking aoe vera. However I ate a lot of crap. Every evening I would eat biscuits and chocolate bars etc. And I kept thinking to myself "I'm bound to have a flare up." And I did!
I expected to get sick and it's like my body followwed my expectations.
I'm in the middle of a flare up now and last night I thought well if I did think myself sick maybe I can think myself better. So I took deep breaths and on a slow exhale I imagined my stomach as strong and health and really powerful and let it feel healthy etc. And imagined a strong powerful healing energy in my stomach like a strong light.
Im also following David Kleins diet for the last two days But last night after having this idea. I decided to pig out and eat some sausages .I ate 6 big sausages and during and after eating them I imagined my stomach and felt it like bing strong and healthy and it was fine to pain just a bit of grumbling.
But the acid test I knew was going to the toilet, well today I woke up and my diarrhea instead of being watery is now more solid. Its like instead of normally where I'd think after eating sauages in a falre up "oh no Im gonna regret this" and feel doomed. I just let my stomach feel harmonous and healthy. Even when you feel pain there is still pasrt of your tummy that is ok so focus on that part and let t spread.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.

It's not denial or an admission of failure but a change in attitude.
So, I'm no longer dieting, just trying to let my body and my mind remember how regulate normal eating. There's a book by Ellyn Satter called "How to Get Your Kid to Eat,,, But Not Too Much." She says that normal eating is flexible and that it varies in response to your emotions, your schedule, your proximity to food, your hunger. Normal eating is giving yourself permission to eat sometimes because you're happy, sad, bored, or just because it feels good. I know this certainly can be a challenge with having IBD but I believe the thought process is right on.
Also, I really do believe if you act like a sick person, you WILL feel sick. This sounds nuts but when I feel like total crap from IBD, I just pretend I don't and sometimes,a lot of times, that actually makes me feel better. It's the same with when my husband pisses me off and I feel hateful towards him. I pretend that I still love him, act like I still love him and then I remember that I do still love him. Self trickery... whatever works.
I believe it is an organic condition caused by many factors. It has been around for thousands of years but lately has increased in numbers of people affected.
What I do use my mind for is to try and listen to what my gut is saying, not my brain. Two separate things. My brain wants me to eat things it likes, like coffee and other stimulants. Stuff that is bad for my gut. There's kind of a battle going on. (Like your sausage episode lol).
By listening and paying attention to my gut I have found what foods make it happy and what foods/drinks make it unhappy.
I have had hynotherapy and it's great but it didn't cure my condition (helped my tennis game haha).
I have learned how to send subconscious messages to myself to avoid bad foods.
I believe stress plays a part in UC but only when other factors are also there to make it possible. I believe antibiotics play a BIG part and I also think processed food especially high fructose corn syrup is VERY bad along with gluten and other grains.
I was a healthy vegetarian when UC invaded my gut. I have a very strong mind that deals well with stress. UC gave me stress not the other way around.
I think we have to throw EVERYTHING at UC: stress-therapy, drugs, diet. I've tried it all and diet has been my cure. I am into my 5th month of remission. First relief in 10 years.
Best wishes to all for better health.
I focus so much on what i am eating that if I eat something outside of my diet, that might be a risk factor I completely lose my mind...and the result is a flare up.
I haven't thought of thinking healthy, I will have to try that!
Thanks and good luck!
i do the same thing when i eat something i think will disagree with me. i think "ok now im screwed etc" and i believe this causes a flare up.

used to work in a pharnaceutical company. he noticed that during drug trilas up to 60% of the placebo group would improve or overcome their illness. this made him realise that it was peoples expectations that caused the outcome.
when you think of your stomach/intestines do you think of them as being like a diseased sewer full of waste or like a strong, healthy part of your body that is healing itself and getting stronger and stronger.
i used to think the first, that my intestines were like a diseased sewer. but now i feel or try to feel/visualise it as being healthy and warm and full of life energy so to speak. and it makes a big difference. ever since thinking lke this two days ago ive been eating what i want except cheese and my diarrhea is clearing up and becoming more solid. i also feel better, stronger.
believe in your colon or whatever is unwell, give it confidence, its still a good colon etc. its strong and wants to make you healthy. so believe in it!
